There is too much talk about this film.. just cant escape it.. it almost gets on your nerves.. not the film.. the talk.. because the movie is truly insipid...
Firstly, whats the film about? Its about a couple who move into a new house, where supposedly a woman was murdered, and who now haunts the house. Urmila, who plays Swati, in the movie is the wife who is then possessed and how she is cured is what the movie is all about.
Having said that, there are some good sound effects, good camerawork blah blah.. bottom line is the film is technically competent but basically boring and full of crowd pleasing gimmicks, sudden thrills which are a test of intelligence, and cheap quality stunts meant to fool the audience, and play with pre-conceived notions.
What is Mr.Ram Gopal Verma trying to prove? That he is different? That he as a film maker can play with his audiences? That he is a great film maker? With all due respects to his mastery over the technical aspects of filmmaking, his Bhoot is no better than a B-grade film. It is a remake of his earlier film RAAT. This man is running out of ideas. It is about time India recognizes this man as nothing more than a gimmick man.
All of his films with the exception of Rangeela and Satya are made to stun the audience. They are not made with a honesty, that you would expect from say film makers like ManiRatnam or Raj Kumar Santoshi or a Shekar Kapur.
This man is what ails the industry today. It is not that he cannot make better films. He can. If he gets out of his own shell. And on top of that, he expects you to believe he is offering something different. But what do we get? A remake of Raat? A remix of several of his earlier films. Ask any man from Hyderabad, who has seen his earlier films, and they will tell you that this man is just a DJ of films of his own.
So, coming back to Bhoot, what you will see in the film is something that wont scare you. But then the atmosphere Mr.Verma creates is such that the sudden and startling sounds will. It is more like a thrill ride with laughs in one of those amusement parks when suddenly a head appears out of nowhere and you scream....
This man needs a break. And a big flop. Only then will he pull up his socks and make a good film. But how can he ever make a film that is going to burn his fingers. He is always going to play safe. Think of it, how much did he spend on the film?
All the actors in the film would charge a pittance for working with a Ram Gopal Verma. With the exception of Ajay Devgan, the others are not going through a good phase anyway. And then all he needs is an Opel Astra, a flat in the middle of Mumbai and some cameras to work with. What does he get in return? A cheap film for thrills, and a whole lot of money. And he goes ahead and parties.
Hell yeah. Ram Gopal Verma is the filmmaker of the decade. Who are you kidding Mr.Verma? The doorbell rings and you expect us to sit up, because it is loud. The lift moves and you expect us to believe there is a monster on top. What kind of buffoonery is this?
And to think people appreciate it. What for? For having no songs. At least those films with songs are not pretentious. They are made with an intent to entertain or titillate or whatever. They have their own purpose, and they are honest. This film is a dishonest, and a corrupt filmmakers greed to rake in on moolah purely on his name and sensationalism.
Having said that, I must add the actors have all done a great job with the weak script. Rekha is completely wasted, not that she is a great actress anyway. Nana Patekar is also wasted, now that he is such a good actor being wasted with such roles.
Stay away from Bhoot... its a cheap remake of one of his own films... no big deal.. no great shakes..
And please enough about this film now...
I was a big fan of Ram Gopal Verma until he started making remixes of his films.. he still makes films like company which in spite being another one of such films, it still is a good film. But hey, we cant take a Bhoot. At least, I cant.
