Its been quite sometime that I was thinking of buying a bicycle so that I can use it and refrain from adding smoke and modifying this beautiful climate of Bangalore. I was confused between buying a normal cycle and a geared one which is costly.
Finally, I bought a 6 gear firefox bike yesterday. It felt good when I padelled it away on the road near forum, rekindling my school days, when I was physically more fit, and mentally more energetic. Now a days I have a fat layer surrounding my stomach and can’t even run for 200 metre continuosly. Thanks to the sedentary life style gifted by my software job.
However all was not that rosy, when I cycled for the first time, in Bangalore, amidst the confused traffic and ear deafening honking. Because it has no mud-guard, the back and front of my shirt and laptop bag were full with mud-dots.It was raining and roads were real muddy. It was frustrating. Also vehicles(buses particularly) have no respect for cyclists. One was almost going to go over me. I have to discover some road where there are no heavy vehicles running. Also my cycle seemed to be holding back with some noise when I was going at high speed. But these are small problems which I am confident that I will very quickly find a solution of. I have known some people who were over-excited at this idea, bought a cycle, came to office for a few days on the cycle and then discontinued. For heaven’s sake, I want to continue and don’t want to be like them.
I have found a lot of people who have taken the onus on their shoulder by contributing that little bit, which can go a long way towards saving our planet. And I am inspired by them. At the end of the day I am happy that I am doing something noble.
Well if being crazy can seave our city/planet, then lets be crazy, but lets save the place where we live in. Because time is running out.
