After having heard a lot about the newly opened branch of Big Bazaar at the Ring road near Hebbal, I decided to go for a casual visit along with my husband. This one seems to be little organized in terms of store space as well as parking which is surprisingly FREE with no parking attendant. As always there will always be crowd at Big Bazaar who claims themselves to be the cheapest of all. The store is well organized in Men, Women, Kids, Gift Items, Stationary, Grocery and Household items, electronic items, furniture mall as well as a jeweler shop.
While we approached the first floor we saw a small event happening where the Big Bazaar authorities were facilitating the winners of the 50th customer which seems to be the latest publicity campaign they have launched till 8th April 2007. A gentleman who happened to be the lucky 50th Customer was given a treatment on the lines of Bollywood film fare award by crowning him and making him sit on a podium with flower boutique and the proceeding were recorded on both a Digital Camera as well as in motion. On top of this he was refunded the entire purchase amount. Good Heavens!
We moved on to explore the stores and the first floor hosts Men’s and Women’s section. The products are mostly unbranded and though there were a few branded products however keeping in mind the Big Bazaar philosophy that targets the Middle class segment, the elite quality items were missing. They do offer wide range of products at tempting prices. The price scheme will be as such they you benefit maximum if you buy items in large quantity. I found dress material impressive and picked them up and hen we headed for the next floor.
The next floor hosts the Gift items and hosts a large collection of show case items at reasonable prices. Adjoining to the same is the furniture mart and there is a large furniture showroom having all kinds of furniture which are primarily made of Rubber wood which by looks, seems to have perfect finishing and attractive prices however as far as the quality is concerned these furniture does not seems to be robust.
One level up and you end up in Food Bazaar which is no different from our good old Food World and there was nothing specific worth mentioning.
Another level up and you end up in the Electronics section. Same like other showrooms except a live demonstration of a home theater in a special room will knock you off but the price tag will bring you back to the real world.
By now we had explored all the levels and it was time for us to check out. We came to the billing counter at the Ground floor and weren’t surprised to see big Q. After a patient wait for a couple of min’s our turn came. The billing system is barcode driven and the staff seems to be efficient and well trained. A bill value of Rs 1200 and and while I was counting the currency and the ticket was printing, the billing executive exclaimed in joy stating that my bill was the 50th and congratulated me. What a surprise… He took us back to the first floor and in a helter skelter I had to undergo all the procedure we had witnessed a few min’s back. It was a big shock and both I and my husband were in disbelief and pushing each other to go and take the celerity reception. Our names were announced on a public address systems and I was crowned and was made to sit on a podium with a flower boutique with a few camera clicks. We were refunded the amount in full. Whooffffff.
Way back from sudden celebrity status, we were soon back to normal and thought if we had brought the Nokia camera which we had a casual glance just before we checked out ! Nevertheless it’s all game of fate and you are going to get only what you deserve!
Coming back to the Pro’s and Con’s of the Hebbal Brach of Big Bazaar, Its spacious, well organized and has variety to offer.
Improvement opportunities are for the Parking issues which need to be controlled by means of dedicated attendants. Each of the floors have their own promotional schemes which are announced using speakerphones by attendants using their broken English skills which needs refinement. The Credit card Guys will chase you and drain you off till you loose your temper and shoo them away.
Overall a Good shopping experience!
