First the good part:
I was looking for alternatives to amazon fresh. (Constant problems with amazon fresh - poor quality of delivery, will always spill oil, will always break biscuits, will always drop items from the order though theyll refund the money, high minimum order value of Rs 600 to waive delivery charges etc.)
On most of these BigBasket has delivered a better service. Timely delivery, minimum order threshold of just Rs 200 for delivery charges waiver, almost nil cost bbstar membership(since they give cashback equal to the membership price as of writing this on Jan 22), various discount offers on credit/debit cards of various banks etc.
But both amazon fresh and BigBasket are equally lousy when it comes to delivering vegetables.
Bigbasket has made quite a mess of its order processing.
Things I dislike:
1. If payment fails, for whatever reason, they convert the order to cash-on-delivery without my consent. What business do they have to do this? It would be better if they ask the customer first.
Further, there is a painfully long wait of up to 1 hour to re-attempt the payment.
Bigbaskets definition of failure of payment is quite broad. Do anything that irks their application, and it will give the deadly payment failure prompt.
Further, there is a painfully long wait of up to 1 hour to re-attempt the payment.
2. If you want to avail gift vouchers and if your payment fails for no fault of yours, you are in a big soup. The order cant be cancelled and payment cant be re-attempted for about an hour. But the order is converted to cash-on-delivery right away.
When pay again option gets enabled youll find that the gift vouchers no more work. You have to cancel the whole order and place it again to avail discounts.
Ironically it prompts you "you need not cancel the order to apply the vouchers as the vouchers can be applied after placing the order". In reality, however, the apply voucher button does nothing leaving order cancellation as the only way to avail discounts.
3. For some strange reasons your default address appears as some strange location, often some other city and your basket gets attributed to that if you are not watchful. You have to select your home address every time you visit the site. Utter nonsense.
4. Your order sometimes disappears. When you place another order, your old order mysteriously reappears and this smart website merges both the orders automatically. And now there is no way to cancel older orders as the items are duplicated. You have to cancel the whole of the merged order and place it all over again.
5. Overall UI experience is very cluttered. But other players like amazon are not any less in cluttering your screen. All online shopping UIs equally suck.
