I have been recently introduced to a new live streaming app that has taken hold in Thailand called Bigo Live. It is similar to live streaming apps such as Meerkat and Periscope where users can instantly start up their own live stream to users on the application. Bigo Live features users on its main page in the app and showcases users with the most number of viewers. The app is developed by Bigo Technology and has a 4 1/2 star rating on the Apple App store and is also available on google play store.
Bigo Live users can send gifts to the person who is live streaming. This is where In-app purchases comes into play. Users can purchase diamonds that allow the users to send gifts in forms of beans, flowers or cars even to live streamers. So far the app attracts young girls and guys that use the app to promote themselves and gather fans who donate gifts to them as they interact with their fans through the app. Viewers can send comments to people live streaming and try to get the live streamers attention as best as they can. Viewership per live stream can range from low tens to thousands depending on the person who is live streaming and how well they utilize the app to garnish viewers.
The app is the another medium that helps normal people become internet / social media idols and at that same time allow them to earn money just like youtube stars.
