Great Historic City with Extraordinary Monuments

We visited Bijapur on a Karnataka round trip in a bus. Notable places over there are the world-famous Gol Gumbaz, Ibrahim Roza, Sangeet Mahal, the controversial Almatti Dam, etc.

Gol Gumbaz is a very clean place, in the hands of the Archaeological Survey of India. Its architecture is imposing. The granite stones with which it was built feel like steel. The museum in front of it has a good collection of antique important pieces. Then we saw Sangeet Mahal and Ibrahim Rauza; the latter is the tomb of Ibrahim Adil Shah II and is said to be the motivation for the Taj Mahal. It has an adjacent mosque also.

Then, we went to Almatti Dan on the Krishna in Bijapur-Bagalkot border on NH-13. It is also a good place to see.
