Billoo, barbaric.

The movie is barbaric perpetration of mediocre and indifferent film fare upon the sensibilities of hapless, tongue tied , adoring Indian audience seeking cheapest 3 hour popcorn soda thrill on a weekend with their trusting girlfriends, boyfriends, kids or parents in tow.

The movie builds to a simple climax of the suspense whether the humble and gandhiesque village barber , billu , is friends with superstar sharukh khan or not? Life sees a sharp upswing in the fortunes of pauper billu, whose tongue is sharper than his scissors, after a film crew lands in village budbuddi for a shooting.

Soon word spreads that billu is an old friend of sharukh, so the entire village starts patronizing billu in the hope of securing some favors with sharukh, whether its for business, or acting, or song writing or a school visit – just about everyone who harbors some hidden cinematic ambitions , suddenly sees billu as his ticket to personal stardom. Billu is afflicted by self doubt whether sharukh will recall his childhood commoner pal and hence must resist the pressures of his peers and family to seek an audience with the superstar, and in turn earns their scorn and wrath and lands in jail.

The movie seems to be an indifferent cut and paste editing job. We are subject to the flat monologue and trembling dialogue delivery that has become the hallmark of irrfan’s and sharukh’s respective artistic talents. The village budbuddi symbolizes budhus (fools), depicting the intelligence quotient of our villages , it seems. Songs appear from nowhere, and attempt to provide glamorous relief to the drab village settings.

The stunts are a healthy and prosperous mix of matrix, mission impossible, starwars, and a motley of Chinese movies. It seeks to copy the village based success of comedy movies like malamal weekly , but falls woefully short.

The few PJs worth recalling are, ‘ a superstar shouldn’t shower – coz its animals that bathe standing !’ ‘ a wannabe actor cites his acting experience as having been the tree under which sita sat, and a floating stone !’

nice music though.
