Billu Barber -
Its very special to be ordinary
The director has done very good justice to the simple character of Billu barber played brilliantly by Irfan khan. He has made the character of Billu come so alive, it feels like a story from the neighborhood. Feels like you have known Billu barber for a long time.
The plot isn’t rocket science, its just a very simple and real story about a small time village barber called Billu, it revolves around his life’s small and many problems and his simplicity, his khuddari and his ability to live it up besides everything. The village where parts of the movie are shot looks beautiful, and for people like me who long for a life far away from the chaos of a city, you almost want to visit it right away.
Shahrukh Khan plays a superstar – didn’t really have to act at all, he was just himself. The role required someone who’s a superstar in real life too and SRK was perfect. Lara Dutta in a non-glamorous role is just about ok, its difficult to digest her as a villager The music is average, not much to it. But its been well synchronized with the flow of the movie.
The movie begins wonderfully, however it starts to drag in between but the second half is interesting and it catches your attention back again. The story is about Billu and his life in the village Budbuda as a barber who is struggling to make ends meet.
Superstar Sahir Khan (played by SRK) decides to shoot in his village and in-spite of him denying it news spreads that Sahir Khan is his childhood friend, soon favors start in order to get a meeting through him with Sahir Khan, this leads to chaos in Billu’s life and excitement in the village.
The end is predictable but nice, brings a smile to your face. The movie has many flaws to it but does not fail to bring out the strength in the simplicity of the character in the lead role.
I enjoyed it.
