If you thought Birdys was happening..It is not!!!
In restaurant /outlet parlance you need more than good food to ROCK!!! You gotta have the crowd, ambience, Service, repeat value, innovation and cost effectiveness for my vote!
HISTORY:
Birdys is a venture of the Narangs (The Ambassador Group). Till only recently they were a 50-50% venture with The Taj, when The Narangs bought out the entire stake from The Taj.
The Narang Group are wonderful restaurateurs, owning Just Around The Corner, Roti!, Dosa Diner, 3 Flights Up and many others. Somehow, Birdys seems to be the dark sheep in their stable.
Till the time it was promoted by Taj, the business was good, if not brisk. Today you can walk into a Birdys shop and enjoy a quite evening with no one around you.(i.e. if they have some place for you to sit!)
BEEN THERE: A few times over a spectrum of 6-7 years at least in Mumbai. Average visited 3-4 times in a year.
LIKES/UPS:
THE SERVICE: is professional & supersonic fast. (You are the only one who all the restaurant is attending to..:D)
THE FOOD: at Birdys is good! Especially their mini meals, sandwiches and their chocolates!!
THE STAFF: is well dressed, shaved and hairs are not falling. They wear those plastic gloves, which symbolizes hygiene while serving.
AMBIENCE: Old English Inn style
DISLIKES/DOWNS:
Most of their menu is not available or presumably finished as they do not prepare or order much.
NO SEATING ARRANGEMENT. Only few stores have actually some seating.
NO JUNTAA!!!. Obviously there are no good faces to look around.:(. Only vigilant service staff is on their toes for you to finish and pack U off! There is no such thing as reservations at Birdys. (If you ask them, probably they will point you to the Railway Station.) The place is empty as a cave!
MUSIC: Well some of the joints play music, Rest, if they rather not play it will be better! The last time I was there, they were playing instrumental!. I love that!
COST: The cost is on the higher side as compared to the bakeries around you. They can do with some discounts or some promotions. Although they are similar in price range to Barista!
STAFF: The staff is extremely well behaved, but they do not have the zing in the life. I mean they got to enjoy what they are doing... but I can hardly see that!
I am little wary of the bakeries/joints who do not do good business, as I am afraid of them passing me leftovers/stale goods (I know that’s stoopid reason.. but being from Hotel Background, I know what that means!). If you have a great turnover of customers at the counter, it helps me have confidence in their offerings.
FOOD RELATED:
FOOD SERVED: Party cakes, Pastries, Savory items, Sandwiches, Confectionery, Mini meals, Chocolates
FLAVOR: The food is tasty and well made!
TEMPERATURE: I had no issues ever with the serving temp.
PORTION SIZE: is healthy. Does not look like chicken feed!
APPEAL: Hmm.. The Food sure Appeals you...
