Overview:
Bishorjon, A love story between a Bangladeshi widow and a small-time Indian businessman, directed by Koushik Ganguli, was adjudged the best feature film( Bengali) in the Indian National Film Awards 2017.
Genres: Drama, Romance.
Main Cast: Abir Chatterjee(as Nasir Ali aka Subhas Das), Jaya Ahasan(as Padma), Koushik Ganguli(as Ganesh Mondal) .
Best to watch with:
This is a film which can be seen with whole family. Only a 5 second soft kiss and 2 or 3 slang are there which can make u feel a little bit awkward with family members.
Plot:
A Muslim man from India, Nasir Ali(Abir Chatterjee), was found senseless in mud in the sore of Ichhamoti river in Bangladesh side, by a Bangladeshi Hindu widow Padma(Jaya) . She rescued him from the watchful eye of the BDR and took him to her house where she stays with her paralyzed dead-like father-in-law. Ganesh Mondal, a politically powerful and rich man, ugly faced and much older than Padma in the village, wants to marry her and keeps always a watchful eye on her. Can she be able to escape the watchful eyes of her suitor to send Nasir to India? The story flows with a silent tension with the feelings of to be caught anytime. Meanwhile Padma fall in love with Nasir. Will she get her love or Ganesh will harm her is the question prevails in the mind of spectators all the time. That is not to say that Bishorjon is only about love. Theres jealousy, intrigue and the pain of separation for good measure.
Performance:
All the main characters acted a masterclass in their role. The best is the director himself. Koushik himself is also the story writer and plan fully wrote an interesting character for him. U will misjudge his character till the last seen. During that time you will always feel he can harm Padma anytime. A negative role mixed with comedy still a careful lover. Awesome Koushik. Perhaps his best role he played ever. And the second character I must say is Padma. What an acting. She will remind u of Sarat Chandra Boses heroines. In a role of Hindu widow she is near to perfect. Her subdued performance, built around unspoken words, and a wounded gaze, perfectly balancing Koushiks part-menacing, part comical lover-boy schmuck. And the third character is obviously of Abir as Nasir aka Subhas. It was a challenging role for him and he accepted the challenge with girts.
Direction:
Koushik Ganguli as a director is also awesome. From the first seen he creates a pace in the film and gradually up lifts the pace as the film progresses. He raised some issues between the two countries like drying of Padma river for not releasing of enough water by India, the border problem, yet to be solved. In
Cinematography:
Koushik has chosen a village for his film set and cinematography was almost perfect with respect to the plot. River Ichhamoti will make u feeling nostalgic. The Ichhamotis languid pace mirrors the story. For a film that portraits the lives of people in a border village, Bishorjon is a strikinglyindoor film. Most of the scenes take place in either Padmas hut or Ganeshs Ancestral house, pointing to the limitation of budget.
Music:
Some musical score is already became popular. Recently died Kalika Prasad had done a great job as a music director, lyricist and also as a play back singer. Score of Nachiketa is also very pleasant. Overall films music pours into your ears, drenches your heart and fills your soul, the pick being the Shah Noor songBondhu Tor Laigya Re, whose keening loneliness and yearning stay with you far after the visuals have faded from your mind.
Best part of the movie:
The cringe-worthy scene is where Padma stitches the flags of the two countries as gift for Nasir to take back home.
Rating and Guidance:
Overall the film shows that love is boundless. Irrespective of religion, irrespective of boundaries of country, irrespective of rich-poor, it can happen any time anywhere. For a really good experience and entertainment, you should watch the movie immediately.
