There is no doubt that SANJAY LEELA BHANSALI is a master storyteller and a bold director.Today where all Directors are making their flicks on GLAMOUR, SEX, sanjay leela bhansali takes up a new subject .BLACK is not less than an EXPERIMENT(actually experiment is too low degree word for Black).Comparing BLACK with any other hindi movie will be like comparing Honey with chalk.
THE GREAT STORY OF BLACK
Michelle McNally( Rani Mukerji)is a girl who is deaf and blind.She can’t communicate with others as a result, she becomes destructive and violent on many occasions.Debraj Sahai (amitabh) is an alcoholic and is a teacher of deaf-blind students.And Michelle is taken to Debraj for studies.Debraj dreams of Michelle going to a college with students without any disability. But, at this stage, Debraj starts to suffer from Alzheimer. He slowly forgets everything including all words and their meanings. The roles are now reversed!And then after many obstacles she becomes GRADUATE.
UNFORGETTABLE PERFORMANCES
BLACK completely belongs to Amitabh Bachchan, earlier he has wasted his talent by doing movies like BOOM, LAKSHYA but in black he is superb.(amit ji u gave such great performance, I don’t have words to write).
Rani Mukerji delivers her best performance .Shernaz Patel is exceptional. Ayesha Kapur(as young Michelle) is first rate.
BHANSALI UNCLE displays his abilities many times, for example when the young girl refuses to obey table manners are brilliantly executed.
(In all my reviews I havent mentioned the director’s performance but I’m forced to do so)
CINEMATOGRAPHY, BACKGROUND MUSIC ETC....
Cinematography is Award deserving, Background Music also suits the mood of movie.Dialogues are excellent.SETS are GRAND and awesome.
THE SAD PART ABOUT BLACK
The main drawback of BLACK is, it is not the right time to release a movie like BLACK.BLACK should have been released atleast 2 years later .The audiences of INDIA arent bold and are not in position to accept movie like BLACK.
ON THE WHOLE
BLACK is an honest and bold attempt .BLACK is a movie of lifetime it is not like a comedy or thriller. Movies like BLACK arent made everyday and it cant be made by any odd directors.BLACK will good business in U.K, USA but in INDIA I feel it won’t appeal to many.
