Dialogues and Violence that reform the deaf. ...

To start with I shall congratulate the cast and crew of this very special film BLACK, a film about a Girl Michelle(Rani Mukherjee) who is deaf and blind, who succeeds in her way in achieving her Tagrets in life.

This is a story of a Teacher(Amitabh) an aging specialist teacher of Disabled Kids and his special pupil, Rani Mukherjee( Michelle) who turns deaf and Blind as an infant due to some un explained disease . Our hero Amitabh(Sahai in the film) reforms and makes a lady of a tottering disabled kid.

The movie is definitely going to move the softer side of your being and stir empathetic emotions. The film is very well shot and aesthetically appealing. The visuals are avante grade. appreciation ends there.

. The Good things apart, I would have given the movie a greater rating in my heart had simple directorial gaffe were not there:

  1. The way Micheele’s mother comes to know of her infant daughter’s turning deaf and blind is as dumb as it is crass. How can a mother not know that an infant she is playing with has turned deaf and blind. Even the way the father conveys the News to her(his wife) is also very mechanical as if reading a prepared speech.

  2. Right in the introductory scenes Amitabh sounds like a maniac and aged enough to die in his interactions with the socalled Miss Nayar or Aiyyar and we(at least) never could understand what is their relationship.( Apparently a wife but then what does Miss mean?).

  3. I fail to understand how a deaf and Blind( D&B) girl can feel frustrated as I know that frustration comes from missing something you know and such a disability will not give her that oppertunity.

  4. The girl Michelle(aged 8) is shown as a maniac for no reason.

  5. The gifted Tecaher that Amitabh is(in the movie) his behaviour with the diasbled girl in most parts of the child hood scenes puts even accomplished goons to shame. Yelling shouting and hitting, it appaers is the best way to "reform" disabled kids.

  6. Most of the communication between Amitabh and the D& B girl are verbal with firm shouting from Amitabh taking the big cut.

  7. It is not clear whether any specialists in the field were ever consulted before finalizing the script. Most part of the gaffes are commonsense related.

  8. The performance of Rani as a disabled lady(grown up Michelle) also leaves a lot to be expected especially as to her mannerisms. Her turned foot walk (gait) gives an impression   of a physical disability other than D&B.

Iam surprised how these small things go unnoticed by giant performers like Amitabh.

I now know how well Aamir researched and shot his own "disability film" in the form of Taare Jammen Par.

Still I recommend the film because it is a Different Film and shot with a good cause in mind.
