Black is a feeling, its a journey towards another world. A world there is no sound, no color just black, and an unspoken world.
Welcome to the new era of bollywood. I have seen many movies, but never seen something like Black , It was a new experience for me. Its the story about a dumb and deaf girl, Michelle Mcnelly , and her teacher Debraj Sahai . Its about the world of Michelle, the black world, only silence and just black.
Thus begins a journey of two headstrong individuals. They will overcome failures, obstacles, even ridicule as they tread the path less taken. What they seek is that moment of miracle when the ray of knowledge will penetrate through the dense black of Michelles life... Black is the cathartic tale of a deaf, mute and blind girl who saw what other lesser mortals could not.
With a single mind obsession, Debraj takes up a challenge that is next to impossible - to lead this wild, uncontrollable child into the light of knowledge. It took 14 years for Michelle to complete her graduation, but she made it. Black is a lesson for everyone. Like her teacher says in the movie, every fall you will rise. And every failure is the next step to success. And in the interview Michelle explains the meaning of knowledge for her and why she wanted to study further? You never ever forget those answers.
A strong script made all the difference. The childhood of Michelle is acted by a golden hair little girl, she is just amazing, a born talented actress. Every one, Amitab as the Magical Teacher who will lead a blind and deaf girl to the world of light just done his career best role, which any actor love to do. Rani Mukharjee through her interview scene and her letter to her sister on her engagement day will make you cry.
Black is a movie which will leave a sweet pain in your heart. By the way if you know, some hindi, you can enjoy this movie, most of the dialogue are a mixture of Hindi and English. And yes there are no songs. But every scene will steal your heart with its camera works, lights, post sets, the background score and the rich frames of Sanjay Leela Bansali. Its said to be invested 200 Million to create this movie, and I can say it is worth for the money.
I will recommend you to watch this movie in a theater, not in a vcd. You will love it just like I did...
