“BLACK is a colour of achievement…a colour of intelligence…a colour of graduation……….”
Hi folks!!
This is Snigdha………writing a review on BLACK.
Well I am not a movie maniac……I watch very few movies……sorry that I am writing a review on this magnificent movie so lately!!! But what can I do………I missed the movie while it was released……and on 25th I watched it on stargold in the afternoon………and I must say that I should have watched it in the theatre!!!
Ok let me start then…
STORY:
The story starts with a scene where an elderly person is shown who has lost everything in his memory….he does not know how to speak because he has forgotten the words!!! Then there comes a female of around 40 years old who is blind, deaf and dumb…she is trying to communicate with the elder person….
………..Now lets come to a small girl who does not know what the world looks like or what a thing is called as “sound” ……how much she is missing- Almost everything……BLACK….yes her world is totally black…..not only in colour but also in terms of rhythm, love, affection……..she does not know how to call or what the person is called whose touch is so soothing for her…..what is the meaning of the word MAMA…..may be the best word in English language!!! She just knows that there is someone who comes to her rescue when she falls down or gets hurt. She is a prisoner in her own body……the outer world is just something she cant discover at all…
Then comes another person who tries to teach her how to communicate with the outer world…..he starts her teaching from the world which she can just feel around her….not from A, B, C, D….but from B, L, A, C, K….”black”…….then he makes her feel something chilled, smooth, and flowing thing and teaches her the first word “water”. Then the story goes on…..the teacher lives with her and teaches her everything by sign language. Then both of them share a common dream………and the dream was that the girl will complete her graduation….she failed and failed…no not because she was dull but because she was not as fast as the normal students in writing as she was writing by using a type writer, which she cant see!!! In the mean time the teacher gets old and he is attacked by a disease of loss of memory…he forgets the way out of a room, he forgets the person to whom he talks almost everyday…….and one day forgets that his student is waiting for him and leaves her alone in a crowded street and comes back…
….finally the story merges the above two parts…….the old man is the teacher ( the role is played by none other than Amitaabh Bacchhan) and the lady is the student( enacted by Rani mukherjee). In the end it shows that the student finally completed her graduation and she gives a speech in the sign language which is translated by her mother…everybody over there wears a “BLACK” robe but she is not because she had promised her teacher that she will wear the robe in front of him……she tells it took other ppl to reach this point only 20 years but she took it 40 years to complete the graduation, still she is happy as the dream of her and her teacher came true!!!
……she goes to her teacher in her “BLACK” robe and with her certificate…though she could not see them the teacher sees them and can faintly remember his dream…A dream with which he lived….then the student teaches him the first word she had learned from himself………”water”….and she is now confident enough to teach him everything rather make him remember every word she learned…..
WHAT I FELT:
After watching the movie I closed my eyes and imagined if I were a blind…… and then there was a feeling of gratitude towards my God that He has given me everything……eyes to see this beautiful world…ears to listen to the rain drops, the birds, the sound of the night……and a tongue to express my views, my points, my sadness, my happiness vocally to other ppl!!! If any one of these were missed then I would have gone to another world of helplessness!!
Then something else came into my mind…recently I got my eyes checked and found out that I would be requiring glasses! Then finally my brother brought the new pair of glasses for me and when I put them on my eyes, I was totally confused…I found the world around me so clear…I was missing so much earlier…I was not able to see clearly from a distance and yet till that date I was actually thinking that the world around me is like that only and everybody around me sees that same way as I do!!! But I was completely wrong!!!
SO CAN I JUST SAY THAT THE TEACHER WAS THE GLASSES OF THE GIRL WHO COULD FEEL THE ACTUAL WORLD JUST AFTER SHE MET HIM!!! According to me “YES”!!!
It was not only the story of the girl but also story of the teacher who almost spent half of his life teaching her to be independent……how many ppl are actually doing that?
At the end I want to tell that this was a mind-blowing movie of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and both Amitaabhji and Rani mukherjee have worked to their best!!! I was spell bound by the performance of the small girl who was acting as the young Rani. She was just too good….the background music was also very good and accurate to the mood of the audience.
Hey there!! thanks for reading my review and plz don’t forget to leave a comment……..bye till my next review:0)….
