Black Friday is releasing tomorrow. On the eve of its
release I feel I have a word or two to say about it. I think I owe it. Review?…
I’m not sure.
Amongst the many people who have managed to watch this film,
I watched it some time back on a pirated cd given by a friend who downloaded it
from net. I have no shame in admitting this cuz for once I don’t give a f
whatever it amounts to. What it really means to me is a movie I badly wanted to
watch. And I can kill for something I want so badly and here it came like served
on a platter. How cud I’ve not watched it and carried on with the disappointment
I felt some years ago upon reaching a theatre on a Friday morning to find out
no show. I eat my food when I’m hungry.
I’m a huge fan of cinema of some point and purpose and black
Friday has come up as one of the fiercest contender. It beautifully achieves in
every aspect it attempts to- content wise, presentation wise and your ‘take
home’ Film is like a documentation of the chain of sequence that led to Bombay
blasts and the investigation that followed, exploring in the background ‘why’ and
if u look a little deeper then ‘why the hell on earth?’
What really sets it miles apart from others and many of its predecessors (like Bombay ) which followed the same trail is the depiction of reality
without layering it under any social moral stand towards the climax which
seemed to have become the innate quality of hindi films.
Blood is blood. Grudge is grudge. Revenge is revenge. let
the audience drive a point from it.
Hindi cinema has evolved. Kudos to black Friday.
I just have word of praises for this movie. And I want to
recommend it very strongly to everybody who has wandered mistakenly to this
page. Watch it must.
Tomorrow I’m going to watch this movie again, in theatre
this time, just to be able to pay for it now (wont mind paying double also), to
support it and to assure the film’s director Mr. Anurag that he need not worry at
all whether people are going to watch it in theatres or pay for it as many have
already indulged in piracy, whether film will make more money than invested in
it (excerpt of his apprehensions from his blog at passionforcinema.com)
I know of many like me who are going to watch it and pay for
it happily. And I’m sure its gonna earn him much much more than jst the money.
