Jhamu Sugandh - always been in news for controversial movie backing...let me not drive into those glitches...but for me Black Friday is 1 bold & straight attempt towards unshrouding the 93 Mumbai Serial Blasts.
The gore depicted might pacify the narration & screenplay...but things are aptly handled by Anurag Kashyap(Satya fame writer). The subtlety infused in the narrative screenplay & the somewhat obvious theme of the entire movie makes it A grade but for die hard Ramu (factory) type maniacs this is no miss stuff. Pune film festival saw the high rise with some cine-goers not getting seats to watch the movie.
The entire packaging with soul stirring background score by Indian Ocean makes it worth a deal. The rawness in the script & the supreme court fiasco shouldnt steal the flavour. The bold punchline Based on true incidents amplified the entire scenario (the best part being no songs...you never know in hindi movies). There had been numerous theatrically successful attempts(commercially bugged off) - Bombay, Fiza, Dev, Company, hence the theme doesnot motivate the cause...but slick cinematography, apt editing & powerful factual script makes Black Friday worth a wait.
Indian cinema changing avenues in due course not only holds great prospects but also artistical freedom (Please ask the Big papa Scissorhands to give space to creativity & factual storytelling....& let cine goers decide what not to watch....). My rating stupifies the art & not the theme. Watch it!!!
