Ive had a Blaupunkt MAUI MP36 head unit for a little over a year. The unit plays MP3 and regular audio CDs, apart from radio and AUX in (rear). Blaupunkt advertises that it plays CD-R and CD-RW also.
A few months after buying this, I found that some of the CD-Rs that Ive burned from my PC do not play properly. It plays sometimes, and sometimes it refuses to recognize the disc, and displays “CD ERROR”. I ignored this problem at that time thinking it to be an issue with the cheap moser bear discs that I use. However, after 8 to 9 months.
I found this issue happening really often. It would refuse to play CD-R and CD-RWs in one go, and you would have to keep ejecting and entering the CD 5 to 6 times to get it to play! Sometimes I was getting this problem with regular audio CDs also.
Now, I thought that maybe the lens is dirty, so I used a lens cleaner. The lens cleaner is of a good company, dry brush type, and it works very well on all my other CD players like on home audio system, PC etc. It worked well on the Blaupunkt also, but only for a while. Now, it is 1 year and 3 months from purchase, and my warranty has expired, and it refuses to play ANY CDs. Not a single CD – not audio CD, not MP3 CD, not CD-R, not CD-RW!! Whats more, it refuses to detect the lens cleaning CD also! I am now stuck with this junk, that cost me 6.5K, and it just plays FM. PLEASE DO NOT BUY BLAUPUNKT!!
