Searchin....rahman magic

Once upon a time.there were movies called.roja, bombay, dil se, lagaan, humse hai muqabla, guru, rang de basanti, meenaxi, 1947-earth, sapney and albums like vande mataram and connections.

all the movies and albums listed above had one common element in it.that is Rahman Magic.

the melody, rhythms, basses, choirs, versetality, simplicity as well as complexity. and above all. very palatable . very addictive.

we used to sit(even today also we r sittin) in a group and being coposers and music lovers we used to listen the songs of rahman on and on and appreciate minutest music piece lied in 3rd or 4th part in the song.i m feeling proud to say that I m one of the biggest rahman fans.

why I m saying so.>>? its just because I have just listened rahman’s latest album BLUE. and I was really disappointed in many of the compositions(though at certain songs there are words of praise also).the main element which is lacking is the heart of the composition. THE MELODY.

all the compositions(exept one or two) are very complex people need to listen carefully to get the idea behind the compositions. it seems like too many cooks have spoiled the food.

most of the music lovers like complexity of the song and same is the case with the composers also because by making the song complex, composers proves how genious they are.true.accepted. but as I believe. the complexity should be upto the certain reach.and it is not like only complexity makes one genious.

there are various complex songs which have proven the geniousness such as tum jo mil gaye ho of Madan Mohan or kyaa jaanu sajan of R.D.B. or Tribute of Yanni. or sun ri sakhi, e ajanabi, or jiya se jiya of Rahman himself.all theses songs are complex.in terms of arrangement, instruments, rhythms, singing and compositions also.but on the other side, there are various various songs which are all time hit and favourite even thought they are very simple.such as, waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam, tum pukaar lo of hemant daa, ghazals of jagjeet sing, ek ladki ko dekhato aisa laga, musaafir hu yaaro of RDB and dil hai chhota sa or kabhie kabhie aditi of rahman himself.

it seems like something has gone wrong when BLUE is concerned. there is no feel, melody is lacking and it seems like un necessory electros have spoiled the matter.i might be wrong here.

lets look upon each song briefly.

1) Chiggy Wiggy - it is sung by Kyle Menogue and Sonu nigam.there is a good combination of pop and bhangra. though doesnt seem impressive. Kyle menogue is usual.it was expected that if she sings in rahman’s composition, there should be something new but its just usual.kyle menogue ki jagah tata younge ne gaaya hota to bhi kuchh fark nahi padta.

Sonu Nigam is as always.superb.its a groovy track but doesnt make any impression in first look

2) Aaj dil gustaakh hai - sung by Sukhvindar and shreya ghoshal. again an odd song. guitar chords runs in contrast of the song. good jazz piano work. but again.lacking melody.various instruments have made song fulfilled and there is some experemental work also. but personally.i didnt like that much.

3) Fiqraana - sung by Vijay Prakash and shreya ghoshal. seems like rahman is singing instead of vijay prakash. un-necessory breaking of words( e.g. gul-zaaro, see-taaro.) doesnt make sence, .composition is ok.nothing new.various types of reverbs are used to make the song impressive.

4) Bhoola tuje - Sung by Rashid ali. soothing song. good work of symphony strings.as song goes furthr.it seems that it has lost the direction. but still. this is a good pick.

5) Rehnuma - sung by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. mixture of jazz, rock and tango . beautiful singin by Shreya and sonu. guitar seems like as hybrid product of MI2 and James bond theme. this song is of different mood. but still in search of melody.

6) Yaar mila tha - extended version of choli ke pichhe and ringa ringa as the lyrics are concerned. sung by Udit narayan and madhushree. experimental african tribals are there in interlutes. in stanza.song converts into rap. again an experiment. I didnt like it personally.

7) Blue theme - sung by Blaze, Raqeeb alam, sonu kakkar, jaspreet singh, neha kakkar, dilshaad. seems like a hollywood theme.( u ll find a clue in themes of fast and furious series) again a groovy track. good use of indian percussion in between. again lacks melody.

lyrics are average in all the songs.

overall. I m disappointed. for the sake of sound effects, instruments, and grooves.this album is ok but it lakes the heart.it seems like kuchh dino baad log iss album ke music ko bhool jaayenge

*so.i didnt like it. u might like it.jst test it if u need.
