The Blue Fox Restaurant of Park Street Calcutta is situated in the most aristocratic and fashionable area of Calcutta. This area is usually inhabited by non-Bengalees, and is more cosmopolitan than, say, the traditonal Bengalee localities like Ballygunge, Golpark, Jadavpur and Jodhpur Park. Being close to the Esplanade area, it is a class of its own. But, I do not know how it got the name of Blue Fox, because, the name is usually associated with Air Conditioners.
Whenever I used to come to the Park Street area during my student days in Calcutta, I used to visit this Restaurant, because of the food and snacks it served. Its High Tea was particularly good. The Waiters were gentle and always ready to serve with a smile. Its decor did not have anything to do with the Blue Colour. Valet Parking is available. Although it is in Park Street, there are very few Parks around. This, of course, has nothing to do with the Restaurant as such.
Once a friend of mine from Cuttack had come to Calcutta, and we had gone to Blue Fox more for exchanging pleasantries than for taking food. We decided to have lunch. She was quite happy with the food. Alas! She is no more. She studied Medicine at Cuttack, and was eventually married to a Doctor. She suffered from Depression, and one evening she jumped into the River Mahanadi at Jobra, Cuttack, and her body was not to be found. What a tragedy! It has been a great personal loss to me.
Coming to Food, its continental Dishes are very good, although the Punjabi dishes are quite good. Soups of different types are very good here. The most favourite item of mine is Fish and Chips. The cost of an average meal could go upto Rs.150/-. Quite reasonable for this area.
Whenever I come here, I remember my friend. She is still in me.
