Are we bewkoof?

Remake of the Matchstick men, the expectations from Bluffmaster are ten-fold, thanks to the post-DUS , BNB craze for Abhishek . Add to it a such a prestigious banner and the expectations rocket skywards.

Bluffmaster has its share of engrossing moments, but they’re few and far between. Unlike MM, which was totally hilarious, Bluffmaster neither completely satiates the gentry, nor those looking for wholesome entertainment.

Somewhere, as it progresses, the screenplay gets loosy and what you carry home are a handful of deftly executed sequences. But a handful of high-quality scenes are no compensation in a 2-hour flick!

Roy (Abhishek) is a small-time con man who’s ready to leave it all behind him and get married to Simmi (Priyanka).

Trouble is, the truth gets blown in his face just at the wrong time, leading to Simmi breaking off all ties with him. Enter another crook Dittu (Riteish) who lures him back to the world of crime.

But even before Roy can put his act together, he’s faced with a grim reality — he discovers he has brain tumour and only three months at his disposal. So he decides to take on one last assignment — to seek revenge from Chandru (Nana Patekar), the man who robbed his father of his life’s savings.

Along with Dittu, he hatches the mother of all cons. But can they pull this one off?

First things first, Rohan’s handling of this new subject leaves a lot to be desired. A couple of sequences, like the Abhisekh-Priyanka confrontations as well as the scene between Abhisekh-Riteish, also takes on TV serials, are well executed, but the desired impact is missing. The romance between the lead players is hardly appealing! And even the song situations are imperfect. What adds to the woes is the length of the film. The narrative has been unduly stretched and at least 20 minutes of footage needs to be deleted for an enhanced impact. The climax is somewhat different but the impact is clearly missing.

In fact whatever little impression the film makes in the first half, it blows it away in the climax. The thrill and excitement associated with a con flick is completely missing . If the effort was to make you laugh, sorry, it doesn’t.

To put it simply , director Rohan has yet to grasp the art of writing the screenplay and giving it an interesting form, thereby mesmerizing the viewer for the next two hours.

Despite a huge star cast, only two performances stand out eventually. Nana Patekar is excellent in a tailor-made role. His fans are sure to go in a frenzy the moment he uses his fists. Riteish uplifts the film in the second half to an extent. He is, like always, first-rate.Abhishek Bachachan is effective in the some scene otherwise he is mediocre.

Priyanka looks bewitching , but that’s it. She gets no scope to display histrionics. An artiste of the calibre of Boman Irani is wasted in an insignificant role.

Bewkoofmaster uff Bluffmaster is a weak film in all respects. Lack of cohesive script , washout climax, negative reviews and dull opening of 40% will prove unfavourable for the film.
