Ok, I kinda liked this movie even though it was a copy of the 2003 Ridley Scott Movie, Mathcstick Men, starring Nicholas Cage and Sam Rockwell. Please don’t make any comparisons with that movie. It was a class apart. Yet, Bluffmaster was a good attempt by Bollywood. Abhishek Bachchan plays Nicholas Cage and Riteish Deshmukh plays a bit of both Sam Rockwell and Alison Lohman.
Bluffmaster starts off with Roy (Abhishek) conning Tinu Anand. Simmi (Priyanka) is Roy’s love and on the day of their wedding, Tinu Anand reveals to Priyanka that Roy is a con man. Obviously, the wedding is off. Then start Roy’s attempts at getting Simmi back. In comes Dittu, another ’con man - wannabe’ and guess who he tries conning. None other than our Baap of all con men Roy. Roy doesn’t fall for it and gets off. He then sees Dittu and his partner trying to con a doctor, Dr.Bhalerao (Boman Irani). They rob him off his money and run away. Roy who is watching all this, helps the doctor get his money back and Dittu’s partner lands up in jail. Bhalerao tells Roy that he’s really thankful for what he did and that he would love to help him in any way he can and gives him his visiting card and Roy pockets it.The next time when Dittu sees Roy, he is standing in the middle of the road looking dizzy. Roy gets unconcious and Dittu takes him to the doctor whose visiting card is found in Roy’s pocket. After learning that the doctor whose card was found in Roy’s pocket is the same guy whom he had robbed from, Dittu leaves Roy in the hospital and flees. The doctor tells Roy that he has Brain Tumor and he has only 3 months to live. Roy wants to thank Dittu for getting him to the hospital but Dittu tells him that his partner landed in jail because of Roy and he also lost his money. Roy asks him what he can do for him and he tells him to teach him whatever he knows about conning people. So, in this way Roy and Dittu become partners. Dittu tells him that the only aim in his life is to rob Chandru (Nana Patekar) who had stolen 14 lakhs from his dad because of which his dad received a shock and refuses to recognise even his own son. Roy also sees Chandru misbehaving with Simmi, so both join hands to con Chandru.
That is not all. The ending is quite a surprise (wasn’t for me as I had seen Matchstick Men). They have changed the ending a bit to suit the bollywood audience. I preferred the ending of Matchstick Men.
I recommend this movie to people who haven’t seen MATCHSTICK MEN and who have no intentions of doing so either.
Nice performance once again by Riteish. Abhishek has done well too. But Nana steals the show. He’s got the funniest dialogues and has performed well. Priyanka is wasted.
Some of the songs are good to listen to but do not fit into the movie at ll.
The Sgt. Peppers influenced background score was good.
