Vijay Singh Deol, popularly known as Bobby Deol to Bollywood, gets the full five stars rating from me! This would seem unusual to others, even to me, as I never liked him that much before…
However, opinions change, as change is inevitable!
Bobby Deol, the Punjabi Hunk, brother (praaji) of Punjab-Da-Puttar Sunny, and son (putt) of the legendary Garam-Dharam.
Punjabi roots and Italian looks…lol, what a smashing combo =)…that comment may be ‘slightly’ biased…=P
He’s married to Tanya and has a son named Aryaman, nice name. Oh, before I forget, Esha Deol is also his sister, as if we didn’t know that already…but she’s his half sister. He was born on 27th January 1967, height is 6’0…perfect!
Filmography: focus on films this time
Dharam-Veer- yeps, this was technically his debut! Acted as his papa in flashbacks
Barsaat-
His ‘real’ Debut. This movie was hyped to be a blockbuster what with Papa directing it and all. It also starred Twinkle Khanna, daughter of Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. The movie didn’t do any wonders at the B.O but it did launch Bobby into the film industry with a bang…credit to his good looks! Also won him the Best Debut Award!
Aur Pyaar...
This one was expected to also take Bollywood by storm…it didn’t even start a breeze…story line wasn’t that great…but most of all, Trash was in it, so obviously…
Gupt
FANTASTIC THRILLER! Great acting by all! And man, was he fab or what? He rocketed up to stardom…critics even praised his acting in this movie!
Kareeb
Well, this one, directed by Vinnu Vinodh Chopra, was a romantic love affair, which crashed at the B.O. Although his acting was quite ok, and songs were nice.
Soldier
Well, playing the action hero proved to be fortunate, as it has been for his praaji and papa! Even though I personally didn’t see what was so good about his acting and this movie, it still proved to be GOLD for this guy! As it is, Abbas Mustan relied on his star appeal, and succeeded! The film also starred Preity Zinta; she was quite new and unknown then.
Dillagi
Sunny Paaji directed this and although it was a dud at the B.O, his performance was still praised, which it should have been because he acted really well in this. Dillagi also starred Sunny Deol, Urmilla and sp.app. Preity Zinta. The songs were the best asset.
Badal
Starred with Rani Mukherji. I haven’t seen this, just seen the songs “O Mahi” and “Jugni” which are quite good, especially “Oh Mahi”. Apparently, his performance was praiseworthy here too, I wouldn’t know.
Bichoo
Yet another one with Rani. I loved him in this role, he was the quite and serious kinda guy..., and he stole Rani’s and every other girl’s heart! He acted sooo well, and I cried at the end when he died. Movie also has song “Totte Totte” by Hans Raj Hans…, which is good, but Hans Raj ji shouldn’t have made an appearance in it, he looks uncomfortable. In addition, “Sannu Takle” was quite good. As was Bobby’s dancing ka andaaz!
Hum To...
With Karishma, yet another dud. Acting was so-so.
Aashiq
Again, with Karishma, not that great at the B.O but Bobby acted well; he was also quite funny!
Ajnabee
Paired with Kareena, and co-stars were Akshay! And Bips. Great performance even though the subject was controversial. The Ajnabee sets were laden with arguments here and there, mostly those with Bebo. Here, Bobby and Bebo also had a fight due to her belief that Tanya had ‘betrayed’ the relationship of the Kapoors and the Deols in that she helped Bips with her wardrobe. Bloody hell. Bebo, as expected, full went to the press and made such a big deal out of it and the only thing Bobby mentioned about this incident was that he was unhappy that Kareena had discussed it with the Media. Gentleman he is.
Humraaz
I LOVED HIM IN THIS ONE!!! His acting was SUPERB! He looked totally GORJUS! He acted the suave character to perfection…and his rage and emotions were so well expressed. Just wonderful! Nominated for Best Actor.
Kranti
With Amisha, and Vinod Khanna was his screen Dad, he was quite funny. Film is forgettable, as is Bobby’s acting =(
23rd March...
Movie about the legendary Bhagat Singh and Bobby did full justice to his role, which was just as well because if he had mucked it up, he would have received a lot of flak from the public, just like SRK did when he mucked up the role of King Asoka. Although Ajay Devgan was better, Bobby still did a fantastic job. Great thing? His uncanny resemblance to Bhagat Singh was creepy. Songs were fantastic!
Chor Machaye Shor
Attempt at Comedy, and well, I liked this movie a LOT. You just have to see his facial expressions and dialogue delivery, you just can’t stop laughing…he outdid himself as this was his first attempt at full-fledged comedy. Also starred the amazing Paresh Rawal, Shilpa, and Bips. Dancing style amazing!
Bardaasht
Action movie but didn’t fare well at the B.O. Also starring Lara Dutta. This performance ne taan phattey chakte…I really liked him in this one, he expressed his emotions so well, his anger, his frustration…good job!
Kismat
Was also quite good, his acting was amazing. Starred with Priyanka Chopra. Movie also didn’t do well at the B.O but his acting was nonetheless wonderful, he’s improved even more.
Ab Tumhare...
Releasing soon. Starring also, Big B =), Akshay Kumar =)…=) what a treat! Big B, Akshay, and Bobby in one movie!!
Bobby Deol seems to be an individual with a great personality. He loves his wife and son, and doesn’t badmouth anyone in the Media. He just keeps at a good distance from the Media, is friendly but not trusting of it, which I believe is a good move.
“I am learning to be friendly but not trusting. (Filmfare, Oct. 1999)
Once you appreciate his acting, you will also find his performances in other films refreshing and wonderful. I now love his dancing style, it’s so hatke! Just see him in Bichoo, Badal, Hum To…Aashiq, Chor Machaye…etc
His facial expressions are a necessary watch, when he’s funny, he’ll crack you up, but when he’s serious, he’ll make you cry, when he’s angry you’ll be scared to death! His total turn in character in Humraaz was brilliantly portrayed. He has had the opportunity to experiment and try different paths (romance, action, thriller), unlike some stars who stick to the same old ways.
He also seems to be a genuine person and a patient one, kept on toiling even after so many flops. Also, the influence of Sunny and Dharam is good in the sense that he knows what’s proper in public and what’s not, same goes for AB jr. And we can only judge a star’s persona on what behaviour they reveal to public. Bobby and AB jr are two star kids who haven’t let ‘fame’ (even though AB jr hasn’t hit the jackpot yet, but I LOVE him anyhow) get to their heads. He’s also one of the few star kids who actually knows how to act!
Hope u liked it!
Ciao!
