After seeing some of the negative reviews and especially the review by Fenil, I was not in a mood to watch this movie(despite being a salman fan). I saw the original malayalam Bodygaurd where Dileep and Nayantara gave top notch performances and I was thinking that this is the kind of movie where Salman would fit well. The original movie was full of comic sequences and amazing fights.
The only reason that I wanted to watch the movie was because of the original malayalam bodygaurd. When I watched this movie over the weekend, I was very surprised that this movie was so well made and also the performances by entire starcast was just wow. I loved the movie more than Salmans Wanted but it is not upto the level of Dabangg
This could have been Salmans best movie had they made the movie exactly like the original malayalam movie. The first 20 to 30 minutes of the movie is a new idea added to suit Salmans image. hmm by doing this they killed some of the main comic sequences of the movie. A new villain track was added to give extra stunts which did suit well to the image of Salman Khan and boosted the movie a bit.
Coming to the story, Lovely Singh(Salman Khan) is a professional bodyguard who is indebted to Sartaj(Raj Babbar) for saving him and his mother. Lovely Singh gets an assignment to be bodyguard of Sartajs daughter Divya(Kareena Kapoor). Divya does not like the idea of a Bodyguard accompanying her everywhere all day so to keep Lovely away from her, Divya plays a prank by playing a anonymous lover Chaya. Things go well for a brief period and then a twist in the story brings them closer and make them fall in love for real and another twist seperates them for ever and there is one more twist.
Salman Khan gave a top notch performance making it a special festival gift for his fans. With this movie he also made sure that he is numero uno and will remain at the top for years to come. The stunts, the dance(I love you song), the style(sun glasses he sports were just wow) - the director did a commendable job in presenting Salman like never before. I would say Salman is choosing movies that match his style and charisma these days, Wanted(remake of Pokiri - a telugu cult movie), Ready(another good telugu movie) and Bodyguard. Though Salman acted very well in this movie, the initial 30 minutes of the movie messed up the scope Salman would have got had they retained the original story of the screenplay of the movie. This is where Dileep scored better than Salman overall.
Kareena Kapoor was awesome in this tailor made role, the director used her acting skills and style to full potential and she beat the performance of Nayantara by miles
Raj Babbar suited the role well and Aditya Pancholi was a very good choice to play the main villain. Both these actors performed very well. Rest of the cast did the job fine.
if you are a salman fan then it is a must watch movie and if you are not a salman fan then I would still say it is a good watch as the movie is well made and is better than paisa vasool and can be watched with enire family.
