Bollywood Hollywood

Ok if any of you have not seen this movie then in a word ’’don’t’’. When I first saw the promos for this movie I count’s wait to see it. Boy were they misleading. The story revolves around this dot-com millionaire who must find himself a bride before his (pregnant) sister’s wedding is postponed. Don’t need to get scandalized here…this part doesn’t take up much of the plot. Any way this guy hires Lisa Ray who he meets in a bar to pose as his fiancé until his sister’s wedding. However the plan goes haywire when he actually falls in love with Lisa Ray who turns out to be a prostitute. Of course in the end love prevails and the guy and girl end up together. Not bad so far right? But wait there is more that Mrs. or is it Miss? Mehta though would add humor to her pathetic movie….

WEAKENESSES – where should I start!!!!?

The hero’s Shakespeare quoting Grandmother who can only invoke irritation with her stupid dialogues. Plus she keeps quoting the most clichéd quotes from As You Like It etc… Her character is completely forced…

Hero’s fragile Mother whose ready to cry and faint at the drop of a hat. Plus the woman can barely speak English and has a very idiotic character who essentially makes the hero’s life miserable and has a very obscure view on life….This is Deepa Mehta’s idea of an Indian mother???

The hero’s loser brother who has a “poor little rich boy complex”. He’s given a confidence boost by his future bhabi and the scene is copied form Hollywood flick Step mom.

Apparently the heroine (from a fairly decent background) becomes a prostitute to annoy her father….UNBELIEVABLE

The worst thing about the movie however is that it does not portray Indian culture properly. Ok so its your culture and you can make fun of it but then lets be original in the process….Deepa Mehta is better with her off beat movies…she should leave these so called “masala” movies to people who know how to handle the medium.
