NAME Whats in a name they say. I would say..Whats there without a name?. But when it comes to creativity with names, Deepa Mehta sure is a class apart. The name Bollywood Hollywood, as many would complain, doesnt fit in the movie. But if you look deeply, youll see that the movies plot is pretty twisted, and itll give you a feel at times that this happens in Bollywood and at other times that Its typical Hollywood...And if you got both of these feelings, the name will sound more than justified to you. Amazing! But thats where it ends. The creativity I mean. STORY The film starts in a typical Bollywood style, with an affluent NRI family in Canada, whose eldest son, Rahul(what else) is in love with a Canadian girl and wants to marry her. The elders of the family refuse it bluntly and after a few minutes, in a very comic way, it is shown that his GirlFriend is no more. I couldnt understand the taste of the movie here...a sensible director like Deepa Mehta portraying the death of a somewhat major character in David Dhavan style! Anyways, Rahuls Mom, dont-remember-the-name, is played by Mausmi Chatterji. She is hell bent upon her son to marry an Indian girl. When he refuses, she warns him that if he didnt do so soon, then Rahuls sisters (Twinky...lovely name, and girl too) wedding is off too. Naturally, Rahul is quite depressed. And in a bar, he comes across Sunita (Lisa Ray). In a typical Hollywood manner, they strike a deal that Sue will act as his fiancee till Twinkys wedding is over(This is the first time you get the hint of Hollywood). And this gives the two an opportunity to spend the time together..a typical bollywood ishtyle. Naturally, they both fall in love and everything seems to go fine, theres this song Rang Rang Le which is the only song worth listening in the movie. And everything stops being fine when Rahul discovers that Sue isnt what she claimed she was. Fine uptil here. But!! But But But, what happens next changed all my opinions about the sense of the director and the movie. Rahul, since hes in love with Sue, goes down on his knees and apologises. Sue refuses at first and hes on his way back from her home. Then in a typical Bollywood style, the two of them are united. Boring!!!!! CONCLUSION So what we gather in the end is, that since in Bollywood, love knows no bounds and since its also Hollywood, think "Pretty Woman".
