I was reading a review by another person on this site on Bombay Hospital and I thought I would share my own experience.
I was admitted to BH (Bombay Hospital) for surgery. At first I was admitted to 1st Class because I was told by the doctors secretary that that was the only bed vacant. So I was charged over 1000 rupees a day. The surgery charges also were charged extra for 1st class so were all the medicines that were purchased from the medical stores (that is over and above the medicine cost and surgery cost you have to pay a certain percentage extra).
After a stay of 10 days, I decided to shift to 2nd class. After directly requesting the doctor, we were shifted to upper 2nd class (the charges were a direct assult of the pocket of a middle class person). Again medicines and all expenses were charged extra over and above the MRP but a little less than the first class.
The care in the first class was ofcourse very good, so was the condition of the rooms and the bed and the treatment as well.
In the second class they dont really bother, its as if take what is given to you and dont complain. The food given to the patient in the second class is almost half of what is given to the patients in the first class. Which is hardly sufficient, so I had to get food from outside the hospital as well.
I agree with what another review in this forum that everyone from the gatekeeper to the liftman to the wardboy all demand a tip when you leave the hospital. Its as if the hospital has squeezed you so why cant we.
Its really a terrible experience, just pray you get a good doctor who treats you well and keep praying that all will end well.
