The vegetarian food is expensive and not worth it

We chose a Wednesday night to visit Bon South in Kormangala. At around 8:00 pm there was only one group in before us. That possibly explains why the air conditioning was switched off.

Ambience: As we stepped inside, there was an unpleasant odour; it wasnt strong but definitely one that made its presence felt. The decor was dull with the possible intention of presenting a sophisticated look. The lighting was dim almost gloomy. There was no natural ventilation which means if someone were to order a particularly aromatic dish, everyone would enjoy the aroma. The tables were well layed out, the cutlery was good but I dont think was much use for the cuisine on offer.

Food:Portions:The portions were sufficient not too large.

Drinks:We just ordered one mocktail which was nice.

Starters:There were pieces of fried papad for complimentary starters. The menu card is divided based on 4 states, Karnataka, Kerela, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, for each course. All but one vegetarian starters were deep fried. Not the healthiest selection. The one exception was button idlis rolled in gun powder. So we ordered that and the other one we ordered were veg cutlets from the kerela starters section. The taste was good, not much that can wrong with idlis and cutlets. There was a selection of 3 chutneys tomato, mint and coconut. These were decent too.

Main course:There isnt a very wide selection for vegetarians here. And everything on the menu is regular stuff which I presume is supposed to be prepared with a twist. We went for a light main course and ordered the appams and sambar with raw mangoes in it. I cant recall the name of the dish but it came from the tamil nadu section of main course. It was good sambar, but the raw mango wasnt much of a twist. The appams were sweet; I havent really had sweet appams before and I dint like these.

Price:While the prices are comparable to other high end restaurants around koramangala like Via Milano, Fiorano, etc for the fare being served I sincerely do not think they are justified. A dinner for two without drinks set us back Rs 900.
