Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan!
Oh my gawd! Could there be anything more politically incorrect and
objectionable? I thought at first until the layers of the movie began
to unfold. Sacha Baron Cohen was given the 2007 Golden Globe for
"Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy".
I did not have any previous information on this movie when I watched it at
first, and was aghast.to say the least! Hilarious indeed with the
most explosively racist, sexist, terribly crude, anti-Semitic,
misogynistic, boorish, shocking-to-the-core portrayals. It is later
that I learnt that most of the scenes were real.that this guy was a
British Jew comedian pretending to be Borat Sagdiyev a Kazakh
journalist travelling across the US and all the scenes in the movie had
non-actors. And that still has not sunk in! The responses at the
different hoaxes were real! Some of them have sued him for various
distresses. But must mention that the Americans are a very politically
correct crowd.except a few, most of them displayed extreme patience
and non-judgemental attitudes during all his crazy escapades! Perhaps
the ones that put them in real bad light were edited a bit?
Anyways.the movie also got me curious to know more about Kazhakstan
and obviously my findings prove that things there are not as bad as he
portrays and the Kazhaks are understandably livid. But I did come
across some reading on the Internet that Baptists and Hindus, are
subject to an official policy of harassment by the government of
Kazakhstan, including classification as religious extremists and
extra-legal destruction of property and eviction in winter. Not sure
how much of this is true though.if it is, with Shilpa(Shetty of the
Big Brother fame) having initiated things on that front we could think
more positively ahead:) Of late I do find the environment around the
world on these issues attempting to change for the better and a Borat
in his extremes and satires or a Big Brother could surely evoke a
change in attitude, by creating the shocking awareness, or atleast the
fear of being caught in the public eye with ones racist pants down!
Just for that wanna say - Dzienkuje(Jen-koo-yeh.thank you) Mr.
Borat!
