I was shopping for a side by side refrigerator when I was really taken aback by the amount of sofistication in design and the variety of large two door refrigerators available. quickly my requirements changed from the purely show side by side refrigerator to the practical and utility loaded two door fridges available.
Out of the many available I choose the Bosch two door, 415 liter 3 star bottom freezer fridge as it was one with the most creative of features that gave practical utility with a best in class fridge to freezer ratio of 70:30.
it has a host of novel features like a steel bottle rack tray in the fridge section, , toughened glass shelves, two boxes for fruits and vegetables and a larger box for vegetables .
it has cute stackable 4 egg trays that can be stacked and kept aside when not in use.
the bottom freezer also has 3 trays that are clearly from a discerning designer who has seen stuff fall out of freezers that are either full or not well stacked. I bet all of us have had a freezer accident where a large frozen food item falls out of atop freezer and onto our feet with painful results.
it comes with ice trays for ice making no fancy twist to dislodge technology, just practical utility.
apart from these features it has the standard cooling for each rack or shelf and door cooling and various levels and racks in the door for large and small bottles.
also not to forget, its outside is also available in a no frills single colour silver.
It has a host of little things like a slow brightening LED light for the top fridge which in the dark is easy on your eyes, a magnetic switch for door open detection, a lock for the touch used to alter settings on the front door for the fridge . The door open alarm can be shut off, like when cleaning the fridge.
It has a two stage door close mechanism that prevents the door from slamming shut too.
One caution though, watch your foot while opening the lower freezer door, it’s about an inch from the floor and many times hits your foot, most other refrigerators have a two or three inch clearance from the floor. I put a protective clear corner protector on the door corner to save my feet. Maybe I should just stand a bit away!
Another quirk I noticed with this fridge, though its not a deal breaker is that if you open and close the door and want to open it again immediately it refuses to open. The issue is that the quick cooling results in a vacuum and takes a minute for the blowers to fill in more air in the fridge before it can be easily be opened. it takes a minute for this.
One more feature, if you can call it that, that is very common in all fridges, but is missing in this one is a door lock. I wonder why!.
all in all I would definitely say go for this refrigerator, its a better designed one.
