Supreme BO(u)R(n)E - The Bourne Supremacy *ing Matt Damon, Joan Allen, Julia Stiles, Brian Cox ..
The film begins where the Bourne Identity left ....Jason Bourne is trying to reconstruct his life, his past, his love & get over his nightmares. But the best
part here is one need not have seen The Bourne Identity to check out The Bourne Supremacy.
Any similarity of characters, names in the movie to the book by the same name written by Robert Ludlum is purely coincidental !!
Yes apart from the above everything is Greek - especially the plot. The new plot has huge flaws and is unacceptable to a rationalist like me.
The Plot
Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) in picturesque Goa with Marie (Franka Potente-wasted minute role), jogging, dreaming, loving, & hiding until an Russian assassin traces them. Thats the end of Maries role and Bourne leaves Goa for Naples
using his very own passport - I do not expect this from an international spy assassin he he ....
A CIA operation headed by Pamela Landy (Joan Allen?) goes topsy-turvy and 2 operatives are killed. Further investigation leads them to the Treadstone Project and the finger prints (planted) to Jason Bourne.
CIA believes Bourne is doing the killing and the real assassins (Russian big shot having heavy stakes in Oil industry) want that. Bourne has other plans, apart from knowing more about Treadstone Project (remember the amnesia), he has to prove his innocence and get to the bottom of this.
The Analysis - Go for it
The plot though it deviates from the true story is a spy thriller all the way.
There is a lot of punch in the movie not to mention apna beautiful Goa, India.
The acting department springs a surprise - Damon does make a good spy trying to find his world. He is improving with each film (I personally never liked him but ..especially his expressionless wooden face).
Joan Allen as the CIA operative is very convincing and so is Brian Cox in a negative mould not to mention the small role of Julia Stiles(last seen in Save the last dance)as a psychologist or whatever it was... The Russians were aptly portrayed and overall the casting is perfect.
The movie is slick & tightly paced with no nonsense approach and Damon is apt. The scripting and narration is good. What music eh?
The Analysis - Wait for it on HBO / STAR MOVIES
The movie could have been much stronger in terms of technical finesse which it completely lacks.
Well I like to watch action movies but here I could not catch the action scenes at all. The action scenes are very fast and before I know whats happening the scene moves on ..
The camera work(By Oliver Wood - make a note of him) is very shaky and sloppy -surely he was well paid and not drunk. The car chases (especially the one in Russia) is senseless and so badly portrayed that you are unable to understand whats happening !!
The end result is since the scenes are badly shot and edited - it has a telling effect on the whole movie and you end up getting confused as to what is happening ..Hey could you please slow it down a bit.
The plot is nothing out of the ordinary but off late we have had less of Action movies resulting in Bourne Supremacy faring a lot better.
What can I do if its a blockbuster? and what can I do if all of the ratings are good in MS? I prefer the Bourne Identity any day over this and suggest others to catch this on the cable.
Waiting for Bourne Ultimatum ...ofcourse expect a new plot not in line with the
book and hopefully a new director again.
