Do you think a software engineer would be happy if an onsite assignment gets postponed? Sadly and unfortunately, I was, coz I got a chance to watch this flick on Day One.
I was clearly impressed with the music and most importantly the Secret of Success song. I started visualizing how the movie would be, the story but to my utter dismay Shankar faultered for the first time to offer nothing. This is what Shankar tried to say: Its a message to parents. Leave boys alone. Help them but dont interfere. Theyll chart their own career. But, needless vulgarity, a dragging story(or lack of story?) all play spoilsport.
These 5 boys from five different colleges and five different backgrounds spend every evening sitting on a compound wall doing just what any teenager would do. These boys are a good find. They act well. It comes natural to them. Genelia DSouza looks cute and is the sole reason for the boys sitting in the compound. Thats all good about this movie. Viveks Cameo is a bit different in this movie. He tried to do a character role and he consistently failed to achieve the minimum standards - but yes he wins hands down in comedy scenes.
You know what? If youre a pure nut and run naked in the busiest of the busy roads in Chennai, your lover will love you too. But, be prepared to pay a fine of 1000 bucks and spend a day in lock-up! Hey, after all this is a little sacrifice to win your love life. I get sick of all this. No movie today tries to portray tue love. They only show either lust or infatuation.
All these 5 boys on their course of getting enlightened in sex life, manage to bring home a prostitute and the scenes thereafter are real fun - but only if you watch it with your friends. Watch it with your family and Im sure youll get embarrassed and pray for the scene to get over. This scene later aides in an important twist in the boys life. There was no story until the intermission. I assumed this is a directorial touch to keep the story in suspense but Shankar managed to hold the story in abeyance until the end of the movie. When you come out of the theatre, youd miserably fail if you try to recap the story.
The songs were good but thanks to a wretched theatre(only place where I managed to get a ticket), there was no sound/visual effect. I was actually eager to watch the Ale Ale song that was made using time freeze technique - New to Indian cinemas(Weve seen this technique in one of Tendulkars ads). Because of superfluous usage of the technique, the song is a bit irritating. These directors must understand that technology must be used only when necessary and not just for the sake of demonstrating superiority of the movie.
Im going to watch this movie again in a better theatre with good sound and visual effects. But, as a sincere mouthshutter, I wish my fellow beings to avoid this movie if youve the music CD and a good stereo system in your house. Overall Rs. 20 crore of A.M.Ratnam has been wasted. I only pray that the producer breaks even.
