RATED as a must watch for the gen next....This is a movie is a fresh breath in the present genre of movies revolving only around the family dramas and thier emotional treats.....story revolves around Five boys from different class of society and the same family problems faced by a common middle class family..........every body has an aim and is least bothered about it.......they run around girls ....right enters the first song.....girlfriend which is an musical pleasure....rahman at his best.........The five boys are alll expected to do all sort of things that a teenager would have only thought to do in a dreams....their enthuiasm leads them to go for prostitutionn....they are alll in love with a very rich girl called harini. Munna is desperately in love with her and has shown all his emotions by overacting.....Harini believes that falling in love will only ruin ones life and just friendship is enough. To prove his sincerity he even streaks on the arterial road of the city and runs naked much to the emarrasement of others and harini and gets jailed. Harini falls for this and a love affair starts. Harini’s friends too turn girlfriends to the other boys. The parents of the boys and the girl who come to know of this decide that their kids should stop meeting the girls.
Harini’s mother fixes up the marriage of her daughter with a US groom. At this juncture the boys who are now under the guidance of Vivek, a bank executive decides to run off to Tirupati where Munna and Harini get married. they tie thier knot in tirupathi and manage to get a smalll house by harinis friend help....The couple is thrown out of the house. The other boys too walk out of their house to support the newly weds. They do odd jobs to support themselves. To earn money they accidentally venture into music which leads them to jail coz they created music for a revolutionary group. Out of jail and now with Vivek’s support and a contract from Sony the group enters into pop music.
If one looks into the direction of Shankar one can find that he has always triumphed when he has dealt with social issues. In the love subjects like Kathalan or Jeans he has just managed to scrape through on the strength of the music and visuals. Prabhu Deva’s dancing skills and Rahman’s music in Kathalan and the twin role effect, breathtaking locales, Aishwarya Rai and again music in Jeans left you gaping and one overlooked the subject. In Boys Shankar and the music makes you overlook the content. The boys are average and the girl does sweeps you off the feet. Surprisingly the graphics, animation bit, which he uses, gives you a big yawn when it comes again and again. Its when you start looking into the story is when the film begins to drag. Grandeur is no doubt present in the film.
The film is appealing if you go into the movie hall without expecting a Matrix or a Titanic. For a regional film Boys will remain a landmark for it technical expertise and grandeur. art director Sabu Cyril and music whizkid Rahman and if direction is all about combining these departments and creating an effect then Shankar needs to be given his due share. To talk about the cast the girl Harini the other boys collectively do their best. Vivek needless to say has done a good job. at last a must watch for the crazy teenagers for whom their is nothing beyond love...
songs are the bets part of the movie and make u to sit tight......the fst song is superb wheras boom boom by adnan sami is also a good one.......sa re ga ma is also an delight....
