Avoid this book

This book is prices at Rs 95 which I find is the standard rate for novels written by most upcoming Indian authors. Thankfully I didnt have to spend my money on buying this book but got it from my sister with a warning that this is bathroom reading material. You would not want to spend even your free time in reading this book. Having nothing better to do on a particular train journey, I had picked up the book for time pass.

The book has 150 short stories related to BPO sector. These stories are grouped into different sections. Each section starts with a quotation worth quoting. I think these quotations are the only thing thats worth reading in this book.

The language is simple and intended for the masses much like Chetan Bhagat’s language. Which is fine but what is missing is the literary style of Chetan Bhagat. These 150 stories are I believe written by different people from the BPO industry. Most of the writers lack literary skills and the stories are amateurish. Most of the stories are cliched and boring. After reading this book one would get the idea that most of the managers and team leaders in BPO industry are sex starved maniacs who would promote a girl only if she sleeps with him. Most of the stories are about how the team members take revenge on their team leaders/ managers.

These stories could have been funny had someone with literary sense written them. But most of the stories have the same theme and same plot. Some of the writers it seems suffer from inferioriy complex and they went out of the way to show how much more they have accomplished than their friends who passed engineering. There was no need to for such stories.

Having said that there were few funny stories but they are far and few. But after reading this book, one would definitely appreciate the hard work put in by BPO guys and next time we call up our bank’s or mobile call center we should remember to be more polite with them. After all they are the punching bags for harassed customers.
