This indiscreet Self service restaurant is tucked away in a small corner of RangaRao Road in ShankarPuram, Bangalore. It is a great place in Bangalore for idlis, vadas, upma (Khara Baath) and Kesri Baath (Sooji Halwa). Legend has it that this was the first self service restaurant opened in Bangalore. All served steaming hot, this small canteen does not offer anything other than these snacks, and coffee/tea. This joint has been popular for a very long time. The management has done a very good job of maintaining the standards here. If you plan to eat some snacks standing on the pavement, this is a great place. It is open from 6:30 AM – 12:00 PM. and 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM. The food is very good, and it is frequented by office goers, and college students. If you plan to park your vehicle and eat the snacks sitting on your vehicle, this is a great place. The ambience is best defined as street-side, as you end up standing on the pavement, or on the road. The place is very small, and it is extremely difficult to stand inside and eat. Prepare to be pushed around by other people while trying to get your food. The customer has to pay first (Cash counter is at the entrance) and then get his food from inside. It is perfect if you are grabbing a quick bite on the go. You can also take the food to go. Everything is served steaming hot. The only drawback is lack of space, and ever so slightly higher prices. A lot of new fast food joints have opened around the block, but this is still going strong. Has a loyal customer base, and they keep coming back for more. Highly recommended.
