Hey guys, Why bother with a desktop when you can get a laptop for a few bucks more? Just tell your cousin or friend or whoever it is to bring a new one for you on the next US trip.
Yes, you can also keep looking for good deals in the US of A on the internet. Look at sites like Amazon.com, bestbuy.com, compUSA.com etc to get a rough idea of the current prices.
The last I looked you can get a pentium 4, 3.2Ghz, 512 RAM toshiba laptop for 1100 dollars ie roughly 50K at todayss rates. Now tell me whats the point in buying a desktop here for 45K?
(Of course if you add up the import duty the price jacks up, but thats where your cousin can make himself useful. right?
I better make myself clear- I am not against the Indian brands, but nowadays when the world is wide open to you(through your cousin) they just cant compete, in quality as well as price!
Also I think, all computer imports should be duty free, especially in India, where we like to call ourselves the second biggest computer nation after the US of A!
