Supremely entertaining !!

One of my favourite novelists happens to be John Grisham .I have read quite a few of his books and have found them utterly entertaining. But before I start reviewing his book ‘ The Brethren “, let me share with you something about the man –John Grisham.

The Author

John Grisham is a Lawyer by profession and he practised law for nearly a decade specializing in criminal defence and personal injury litigation. Then one day the writing bug bit him and he began his first book “ A Time to kill “ which was published in 1988 with only 5000 copies. It was not a massive success – though it became one after it was republished a few years later! - but almost immediately after this he began his second novel “ The Firm “ which became a best-selling novel of 1991.since then he has written more than 10 novels almost all of which have been bestsellers. And if that’s not sufficient then about 6 or 7 of his novels including his debut novel have been turned into big budget films.

Brethren- The Story

It tells the story of 3 former judges who call themselves the brethren. These 3 judges finds themselves inside a minimum security prison from where they start a mail scam which gets really big when it ensnares the wrong victim-one who is really powerful ( keep guessing who this person is , I won’t spoil the fun for you ) !!

My take

Unlike most of Grisham’s book where you have an upright lawyer fighting for a good cause , this one barely touches the legal framework. What you have in hand is a novel, which is very light ( funny at times ) and entertaining. If you are looking for a classic John Grisham legal thriller than this one is not for you. But if are in the mood to read some light stuff then this is one is just right for you. Infact , I would say that you should read this book , whether or not you are a Grisham fan .
