Bride and Prejudice - A Real Winner

When I first heard that they were going to do an Indian remake of the classic Jane Austin boook, Pride and the Prejudice, I was really taken back. To tell you the truth i’m not much of a fan of hindi movies. However, when I found out the Martin Henderson was going to play one of the lead roles, I was totally up for it. I mean is he cute or what! The whole plot revolves around Aishwariya’s character, Lalita who is a somewhat headstrong Indian girl who is tired of the way that India is perceived by westerners. When she meets Henderson’s character Darcy they don’t exactly get off on the right foot. However, Darcy is captivated by her and develops an obvious cruch. Lalita on the other hand falls for the Englishman, Wickham who just so happens to be aquainted with Darcy. As Darcy tries to show Lalita the real him, obsticales keep getting thrown in his way and Lalita becomes mor and more disgusted by him. The rest of the story develops from there and I won’t tell you too much because I don’t want to ruin the story for you. Anyways, I was really surprised at how well it was directored. It really brought out all the best aspects of both Bollywood and Hollywood and the acting by both Aishwariya Rai and Martin Henderson was terrific. I really enjoyed it and I must say that I went out and bought the DVD the day it came out. Balle Balle was one of the best hindi songs i’ve heard in a long time, but the English songs really let the movie down. It sounded like they were direct translations of the Hindi songs and it really didn’t work with the movie.
