Bridget Jones was released in 2001.
Run Time: 97 mins
Director: Sharon McGuire.
I first watched this film in 2001 after sneaking out of the library with a group of college friends! It was a great way to bring our friendship back together and enjoy laughter once again through the stressful time that dissertations bring!
Bridget Jones is based on the successful Novel Bridget Jones’s Diary 1996 By Helen Fielding, together with Screenwriters Andrew Davis (Pride and prejudice) and Richard Curtis (Black Adder, Notting Hill).
Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger) is a 30 something singleton living in London, on New Years day she starts her diary:
“Resolution number one: obviously, will lose twenty pounds. Number two: will find nice sensible boyfriend and not continue to form romantic attachments to peeping-toms, megalomaniacs, emotional f wits or perverts.”
We then follow her on her quest for love; enter please Daniel Clever (Hugh Grant) her very sexy yet totally bad boss, and Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) a kind and caring yet totally says the wrong thing childhood associate.
Poor old Bridget gets herself into numerous pickles, all perfectly accidental, and highly realistic, I have to say I can imagine some of those things happening to me! For example Bridget Jones has made Big hold your tummy in pants famous! I have to admit I own more than one pair and they work a treat!

Renée Zellweger gives a convincing performance as Bridget, you can relate to her and sympathise with her, she oozes sex appeal but as a normal looking girl! She gives us all hope! Renée Zellweger has appeared in numerous romantic comedies including: The Bachelor, Jerry Maguire and Me, Myself and Irene.
Hugh Grant as Daniel Clever is refreshing; it is great to see Hugh playing a more sexy assertive character as opposed to his usual mumbling idiot role!
Also no stranger to Romantic Comedies Hugh Grant has appeared in Notting Hill and Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Colin Firth as Mark Darcy was perfect, still as sexy as he was in Pride and Prejudice, since Bridget Jones Colin Firth has also appeared in Love actually a great Romantic Comedy also starring Hugh Grant.
