It Was Certainly Funny

Bridget Jones’s Diary is a film which depicts an eventful

year in the life of a British woman in her 30’s who works in the British publishing industry. It is based on the best selling book by Helen Fielding. The movie stars Rennee Zellweger, Colin Firth, Jim Broadbent and Hugh Grant

My initial observations are that it was slick, in parts very funny or even hilarious, and there was some suberb acting. As the whole world knows- or most of it - the film is about a year in the life of a British women who works in a publishing company in trendy London. She drinks a heck of a lot and is a virtual chain smoker. She seems to have a lot of bad luck when it comes to finding the right man and she also happens to have some real odd ball friends.

Her rather fussy mother tries to fix her up with the ever so worthy Mark Dacey-brilliantly played by Colin Firth- and she has a fling with her boss one Daniel Cleaver who is played by none other than Hugh Grant. Bridget goes through a lot of adventures with both but I wont tell you what happens in the end, so as not to reveal too much of the plot.

Bridget is played by the US actress Renee Zellweger and she manages to pull off a highly credible British accent. I thought she acted very well indeed and she seemed to suit the role very well indeed. Other parts were played by Jim Broadbent who was, in my view, outstanding as Bridget’s rather nice, uncomplicated Dad. Jim seems to be growing in stature all the time.

The soundtrack was performed by Gabrielle and Geri Halliwell, ex Spice Girl, who sang the hugely popular. ’’ Its Raining Men.’’

Summing up this British film was good, an enjoyable escape and very funny, at least in parts. It is not my all time favourite movie but I have certainly seen a lot worse. So Ok it does come recommended by this reviewer.

Thanks for reading.
