Bridget Jones’s Diary

A year in the life of Bridget, a woman with a low self-esteem, who tries to get it back!

Bridget Jones (Renee’ Zellweger) attends her parent’s yearly party. She is insulted by a childhood acquaintance, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). It is after this event that Bridget vows, as her new years resolution, to fix her life. She starts keeping a diary as she tries to lose weight and quit smoking. She wants to become a woman that a man would want to be with.

Her boss, Daniel (Hugh Grant) likes Bridget’s short skirts and revealing clothes and starts flirting with her. They start up an affair that lasts a few months and then she finds out Daniel had been cheating on her and is engaged to be married to someone else. This other someone is thin and tall and very pretty, all the things that Bridget wants to be. She goes into a bit of a slump until she hears something very unusual. Mark tells her he likes her, just the way she is! But Mark is also engaged! How will Bridget resolve her problems and find lasting love?

Bridget Jones’s Diary is a novel written by Helen Fielding. Fielding also wrote the screenplay. It was directed by Sharon Maquire. A big BRAVO goes to Renee’ Zellweger! She, not only did the whole movie with a British accent that sounded perfect, she gave the performance of her life. All people go through a period of time where they don’t think they are as great as they are. Zellweger brought that to the screen. She is not usually a favorite actress of mine, but in this movie she was brilliant.

Hugh Grant was sexy and funny, yet very arrogant. He gave more life to this film. His rival was Colin Firth’s character. Firth’s job seemed very bland in the beginning, but was turned around throughout the movie.

This is a feel good movie that I would recommend. Everyone needs to boost their self-esteem at some point; this movie will do it for you!

Enjoy!
