A Year in the Life of a Single Woman

The book starts with a list of New Year Resolutions that the heroine Bridget Jones intends to keep.  She means to look for a good meaningful relationship with a man, lose weight and learn to operate a Video Casette Recorder (to record TV shows on the VCR).  We are tumbled into the world of Bridget Jones, the tardy, muddleheaded single woman looking for love.  BJ isnt thin or awfully smart, she eats too much and smokes too much and drinks too much.

Her mother tries to hitch her up with a neighbors son who is a hotshot lawyer in London during a thanksgiving party.  Bridget finds him uppity and hates him instantly.   She comes back to London dreaming about her cute boss.  The CB is interested in her too and they embark upon a rollicking affair.  How Bridget faces ups and downs in the entire year that follows is what the book is all about.

She shares her London world with 3 dear friends, Shazzer, Jude and Tom.  They cluster around each other providing moral support and love in a lonely city.   Although she appears ditzy and keeps falling into silly scrapes, she comes through a winner each time, and we cheer for her when she does.

The book was spun out a newspaper column on four friends that Helen The TV has great looks and good picture quality. The only problem that annoys me is that it gives this bad noise when the TV is powered on.I just wanted to know whether any one has experienced this? My suggestion...when ever u are buying a TV, ask the showroom guys to put the rest of the TV’s on mute and try switching off and on your TV....I didnt do this at the showroom. Checked with the guy who came to deliver the TV and he mentioned that its just normal and that u get the noise only when you power on and of and not during stand by mode. But I later found that to be wrong. Planning o check with the service center. The second problem that I found was the bad sound quality. I had a 19 Inch BPL TV. The sound quality on that one was amazing and was pretty much disappointed when I switched on the music channels. I plan to cover this up by getting good quality external speaks. Hope this helps :-) wrote.  It is supposed to be the modern version of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

The book as is delicious and yummy as a black forest cake.  The pace never falters and the style is impeccable.  It is hilarious from start to finish and is a must read for every woman.

It was also made into a movie with Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth (wow) and Hugh Grant (wow wow).  The movie was funny too though it did not follow the book religiously.  There was a sequel to the book and the movie too, called Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason.  But it was not a patch on the first one.

Happy reading girls,  and some guys too :)
