Privatisation of greed

Contrary to the popular belief that privatisation leads to efficiency, in case of BSES Rajdhani Pvt. Ltd., it has just led to a monopolistic practices and opacity. Privatisation can be healthy only if there is competition, or else it leads to exploitation of the tax payer. England introduced privatisation augmented by 14 competitors so that one large transco like British Gas may not overcharge her customers, and people make informed choices.

There is a defunct electric pole opposite my house for the last 10 years and it is obstructing parking of 2 cars as a result we have to park our car about 50 metres away, where it is also unsafe. I have made representation to BSES, the CM’s office and even through our Vasant Kunj, RWA head Mr.Sherawat, but it has fallen on deaf ears. I have written a complaint to RTI.

People have uprooted trees after pouring acid in the roots, just to make way for unauthorised construction with impunity in our C-9 colony in Vasant Kunj, and honest appeal to remove a defunct pole that can be refurbished and used elsewhere or even sold is not being heeded. Still there is power leakage and power theft and dimly lit, unlit, streets. So much lip service is paid to solar energy, but its implementation in Delhi can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Is it because there is not enough individual profit and just the environment benefits, that our short-sighted planners and bureaucrats who want us to remain subservient to them rather that get energy from sun rays, that this is not seeing the light of the day?
