I applied for BSNL phone and internet connection on Jan 1 2012 since no other wired internet(airtel/ACT) is available in my area(bhuvaneshwari nagar, north bangalore).
I have visited numerous times to BSNL exchange and everytime JTO says they dont have cable!
Once he even said there are hundreds of connections pending and they are not concentrating on new connections due to BBMP maintenance work going on.
The state of wireless internet is pathetic. Its either too slow(tata photon) or too expensive(airtel 3G) and at times not reliable(tikona)
We are in information age and getting a internet connection in city like Bangalore is big problem.
I have used BSNL before. let me list out pros and cons:
pros:
Good tariff plans
Reliable but when it fails it can be days or months till connection is restored
Promised speed is available. I have seen posts by people complaining about lower speeds if you opt for 4+ Mbps plans.
No billing fraud.
cons:
pathetic customer care.
their customer service centres promptly take applications but what happens next is all depending on your luck. I wonder why these people dont refuse to give internet connection if there is no feasibility or no cable. Probably with this privilege they would refuse to give any connection:-)
Good luck to all those applying for a BSNL connection.
I am writing this review with a Tata Photon Plus internet connection which gives me blazing fast speeds of 0.16 Mbps:-) . Still hoping one day Govt of India DoT will procure some cables and I will get reasonably priced broadband connection!
