Dear reader,
Unfortunately there seems to be a misconception among the peoples that BSNLs cellular service is very poor. In fact BSNL could have had such a reputation but nobody seems to be willing to accept that things have changed today.
I have been using BSNL Excel for quite sometime now. And I have tried Hutch, Airtel, Spice etc. before.
Hutch sucked big time when I wanted to call someone in the evenings and nights, especially from the beach in Tiruvanmiyur, Chennai. It used to be a really horrible experience because no matter how many times I tried the connection would always fail. This was around two years ago.
So I think BSNLs ill repute is certainly out of place. It is largely based on opinion than on facts.
Irrespective of what peoples opinions are BSNL has already made lot of inroads into the market and eaten away a big share of the private service providers. I urge you to leave aside your prejudice and past experience and give it a try with an open mind.
I did have trouble with my old Samsung handset. For some reason my mobile didnt like the Excel SIM card and it wouldnt work properly. At the same time it would work perfectly well with SIM cards from other providers. So I was driven to buying a new mobile even though I was anyway planning to buy a new mobile.
The signal strength and reach of BSNL network is really amazing. Fortunately this is something many people seem to agree. That BSNL towers enable you to enjoy mobility and connectivity even to remote villages across the length and breadth of India.
I cant say much here since I travel very little myself. And at least wherever I have been and whenever I wanted I got connectivity. Especially during train journeys.
And what excellent deals you get with BSNL prepaid? I first bought the 3051 rupee plan for 3000 talktime. Then I bought a Rs.5500/- rupee plan with Rs.6000 talktime.
Can you show me any private provider who gives you such deals?
And with prepaid, your STD and ISD are all enabled. And you dont have to care about paying any bills. And the above plans give you validity for 1 year. I think this gives enough flexibility for most people.
Voice does break very rarely of course, GSM after all is inferior as a technology to CDMA and hence BSNL may have a disadvantage compared to Reliance or other CDMA providers.
And due to low price, the traffic density of BSNL network is going to increase and it is a matter of concern whether we can continue to expect the same level of service. I dont know what kind of traffic present BSNL gear can handle.
But at least for the present, I am very happy with what I have got!
