BSNL BroadBand Connection- Good speed, But no support

Hi All,

I am using BSNL ADSL connection (Home 500) for past one month. The speed is good compared with other ISP’s. But I faced a lot of trouble while configuring the connection. The main problem is that , nobody is there to support from their side. We have to follow the conventional way only.

I need one full time internet connection. So I decided Dataone & applied for a BSNL landline. (For me landline is not required, I stay alone & uses mobile for making all calls). But I have to take one landline connection because BSNL’s ADSL connection comes in copper wire! There was no response for next one month. So I went to the BSNL office & enquire. Any how they gave me phone connection within 2-3 days. Then again I went to BSNL for apply for dataone. (Online applications are not getting response..have to go to BSNL office). This time they told, they will give me connection within a week.

The real problem comes now. I had one Alcatel ADSL USB Modem (Supports PPPoA , BSNL modem supports PPPoE) which supports upto 8 mbps & earlier was used in singapore for ADSL connection. Also I noticed in BSNL dataone FAQ that BSNL supports both Ethernet connectivity & USB connectivity. So I opted for ’Own modem’’ instead of purchasing BSNL modem. After 4-5 days I got a call from BSNL & they gave me my user id & password. I was also told that , they won’t come for installation as I am using my own modem. Even they did not told me that some configuration in their router is required for getting the connection. Also they did not gave me any welcome kit (which contains the user manual ). So I was totally blank. Any way I connected my modem & installed it. It is showing that broadband connection is there, but I was not able to access the net. So I called up the concerned person. He told a big NO, without any hesitation. (I am not blaming him. Technically he don’t know anything about modem connectivity & he told like .....’’customer modem -- I don’t know sir..!’’)

Again I tried to change my modem configuration....but nothing worked. I called up customer care...but they told they don’t know. Then why they put on their website that they supports both PPPoE & PPPoA (Ethernet & USB connectivity)? At last I went to BSNL commercial officer & bought one ADSL modem. It costed me Rs:2000 & 2-3 days time. Also I bought one network card since Using that modem, I was able to access their router & after making the configuration changes, finally I got the internet connectivity.....But it took such a long time & pained me a lot.

Any way I am using the connection now. Speed is good. As they says, it’s always on. But who is responsible for above problems..? One more thing is that where will we get the usage details..? How can we ensure that we are getting proper bandwidth? Now it is unlimited. But BSNL have to give some customer interface for this. Hope they will do it soon. Also customer satisfaction is important. Hope they will look into the problems listed here.

Regards,

Jaison Joseph
