DataOne Broadband.
This review is about everything on it based on my experience.
Obviously, you fill the form, they take about a month to get things started. You basically need a decent PC with a LAN card (ethernet port) or fully functional USB (their new modem, Type 1 as they call it can function with both).
You get a Huawei SmartAX MT-882 ADSL modem. For this, in this ADSL 2 technology, you can have simultaneous usage on phone and internet, without disturbing each other due to an ADSL splitter that on one side has the main telephone line, and the other, the modem and the telephone, filtering the internet bandwidth from the conversation.
There is a small CD from which you can install the drivers, seperately for the LAN and the USB. When you turn it on, it takes about 30 secs to get the ADSL link after which you can have instant connectivity with close to no disconnections. Your speed depends upon your distance from their server, since DSL works only for about 5 km.
You pay a fixed amount every month depending upon your plan. Additional charges are due to more downloads or uploads than promised. The modem costs About Rs 1, 600 with tax. Renting is not recommended, since you have to for 12 months and you end up payin the same with no modem permanent! For most of us, Home 250 is great, gives 256K bits per second or 32KBps about 10x of our dialups with a limit of 400MB!
Your download speed is much higher han upload speed, since it is asymmetrical DSL.
Support is good, though you might face problems in the beginning. So you pay about Rs 2, 000 at first including the modem, taxes, installation charges and current months charge. No security deposit! And all this in the regular telephone bill.
Its advantages:
About 10x fast as dialups.
Reliable - no disconnections.
Instant connectivity without sounds!
Simultaneous usage of phone and internet.
Cheaper - Rs 250 a month after permanent purchase of modem for Rs 1, 500.
Cost integrated in telephone bill postpaid - more convenient!
Works with USB as well as LAN.
Its Disadvantages:
- None in particular except that todays PCs come only with a dialup modem.
