I am a subscriber of BSNL IPTV(Wicebox) from around 2 months and my experience is not that bad with it. Firstly I received this through a offer from BSNL guy who said If I subscribe to IPTV the next day we will have to pay a rent of Rs 100/- for lifetime the actual rent is around 175 and he also told that you have to pay Rs 1500/- as deposit(refundable) which will be added to your next phone bill. What he had told me that youll be able to watch this on your PC or TV but one at a time still I went for it as rent they were offering was low. The next day guys came frm wicebox and installed it for me.
Here are some facts that I would like to tell
If you want it for PC youll need a TV Tuner card that with AV cable inputs.(I was not informed of this buy the offer guy)
They are only offering 5 meters of FREE wiring after that you have to may something Rs.15 per meter of cable.(I had to pay Rs.400/- for a 19 mtr cable as my PC is in my bedroom and the TV set is in the living room.)
There is no multi-language service nor there is a EPG(Electronic Program Guide)
Picture Freeze can be expeirienced while surfing through channels.
The main thing I was dissapointed by is there are many main channels missing. As I stay in Maharashtra I would like to see Marathi channels not south Indian channels or vica versa, There are main channels missing like Zee Marathi(Atleast show in Maharashtra), Zee Talkies, Star Cricket(Must for a Cricketing fan like me), Zee Cinema(Again a must Channel) etc.
There is also no service to temporary broadcast channels like Neo Sports for the upcoming Tri series. Currently in Pune they are offering 99 Channels(most of them are of south)+ 11 Radio Channels. They are also offering services like VOD(Video on Demand) but thats not so good.
I have experienced No Signals to many channels but normally this is fixed within minutes.
I highly recommend dont go for a modem purchase instead go for the rental plan which is Rs.99/- P.M
My Conclusion is that this service in not bad if you leave a few missing channels and I am sure BSNL will add these when they get the rights.
Thank you! for reading.
Update:
Now BSNL is also showing channels like Zee Cinema, Cartoon Network & Marathi channels which I generally watch so now I am satisfied with this service. They have also started to provide services like Games, Video On Demand etc. Very good indeed. The main thing is they are missing some channels like Colors, ESPN, Star Cricket but still pretty good.
Update-2:
Since a week all the channels are running choppy/jerky on my TV. At first I thought it will be OK by the evening on that day but nothing happened so I contacted the customer care via Telephone and told my problem. So after 3 days their tech guys arrived at my house they checked for the problem and said the bandwidth had gone down and the problem will be fixed by evening. It has been 2 days when their customer team arrived still the problem continues. The customer care is really bad I highly wont recommend this product.
Update 3:
Now its June 09 and T20 World Cup is on and still these guys are not showing star cricket(They have a problem with Stars sports channels I think) result I lost coverage of all practice matches and now even if T20s Indias matches will be shown on DD1 Ill still prefer star over that. I m hearing that channels will be more soon from last 6 months a few channels were added but you know these are that channels that many people dont really know off.
