BSNL dialup Connection - A choiceless choice for small citiy dwellers
BSNL called Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has been a popular ISP for home internet users. It is also a choiceless choice for people who live in a towns and small cities (like I live in[Akola]) where no other ISP is available.
I have been using BSNL for last 3-4 years so I could well explain what exactly BSNL is.
BSNL claims that it is the best internet service provider in India. I would not challange this claim to a great extent but just bring some major features of this ISP.
1. Connectivity(3/10) :- As far as connectivity is concerned you should not expect more than 33.6kbps - 40kbps. It is absolutely not acceptable. A connectivity of around 48.5kbps and 50kbps is an ideal connectivity which an ISP is supposed to provide.
2. Speed(0.00000001/10) :- This is the worst part of the service of BSNL. During the peak hours, the download speed is around 2-2.5KB/s. Which means to download 1MB of data you would require at least 10 minutes. So it is impossible to download some good softwares or games from internet using BSNL. Even during night hours(11 - 6.30AM) you would experince speed of 3.0 - 3.5kbps. That is no good for downloading. Taking into account dial up connection speed the average speed for downloading should be 5-6kbps at 56kbps for any ISP.
3. Customer care(0/10) :- As a BSNL is concerned customer care is almost negligible. In a month out of 30 days you should expect 5 days to be off for internet because of various reasons such as line broken, reparing work, overload etc...etc. You have to ring 100s of time to bring to the notice of BSNL officers that you are not able to connect to the Internet, you are not getting connectivity etc.
But what would you do? You are at the mercy of BSNL. BSNL thinks that it has monopoly and the its service is day-by-day declining.
