Don't miss this!

I was waiting for this movie ever since I came to know that Amitabh Bachchan is going to share the screen with his son, Abhishek Bachchan. There are other factors also which can increase the curiosity and anticipation of the audiences:

The star cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Aishwarya Rai (Guest Apperance), Raj Babbar, Punit Issar, Ranjeet.

Director: Shaad Ali Sahgal (Saathiya-fame)

Producer: Yash Raj Films

Story: Aditya Chopra

Music: Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy

Lyrics: Gulzar

The combination of such a cast and crew have surely multiplied the expectations from the movie.

The Story

The story is about two young and energetic kids, Bunty and Babli. Bunty (Abhishek Bachchan) lives in a small village of Uttar Pradesh and dreams of becoming a successful and rich businessman through his schemes. His father is a ticket collector in Indian Railways and is a satisfied man. His only concern is to make his son an honest man like him. He doesn’t support his son’s dreams because he thinks that they are impossible to be realized in this harsh world.

Babli (Rani Mukherjee) is also a small town girl whose parents want her to get married but she wants to become a famous supermodel. She wants to participate in the Miss India beauty pageant. But as in case of Bunty, her family doesn’t support her dreams and force her to get married.

Bunty and Babli think that the only way they can escape this situation is to run away from home. And that’s the point when the film picks up pace and excitement.

They both realize that it is really difficult to make it big without any money. Incidentally, they meet each other and strike the chord right away. They first started to fool people just to get some money to go to Mumbai, but after some successful attempts they seemed to enjoy all this. They even donated money to the poor. In the process, they became famous, which was all they ever wanted.

Just before the interval, Amitabh Bachchan enters the story as a Police Officer who hates crime and criminals. He has resolved to find Bunty and Babli and teach them a lesson. And the story continues with all the Chor-Police stuff. There is an item song which features Aishwarya Rai.

Performances

Amitabh Bachchan: He is as wonderful as ever. He has played this kind of a role after a long time and has done full justice to it. It was a treat to watch him dancing with his son. But I think that his role was made too short.

Abhishek Bachchan: He is improving in every film. His chemistry with Rani Mukherjee looks awesome. He has done a great job sharing the screen with his father for the very first time.

Rani Mukherjee: This lady is wonderful in the film. She has done full justice to her role of a lower middle class Sikh girl. She stands out of all the performers in this film. It seems that playing Babli was a cakewalk for her. In real life, she is as funny and crazy as Babli, which she said in an interview.

Music

The music in sync with the film and its beauty is enhanced by the unconventional lyrics by Gulzar. The music has added to the fun and entertainment. All the songs are fitted to the situation and take the story further. They do not hamper the pace of the story. Hats off to Shankar Ehsaan Loy.

All in all this movie is a must watch for all Bachchan Fans and if you are a Rani Mukherjee fan you will be tempted to watch it again. The only drawback is the indigestible way in which Bunty and Babli fool the people. But that’s OK, after all we are not expecting a reality show out of a Bollywood Movie.
