Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Shaad Ali, Shankar Ehsaan Loy… big names in the tinsel town come together to create one of this year’s biggest disasters – Bunty Aur Babli!
What comes across as a riot of fun, colour and life in the rushes/promos, is actually an overhyped, senseless movie with no beginning or end.
Rakesh (aka. Bunty – Abhishek) and Vimmi (Aka Bubli – Rani) are two small town youngsters bored with the career offerings in their respective towns. Rakesh’s father(Raj Babbar) is a railway employee who wants his son also to follow suit. Rani Mukherjee, awed by the likes of Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor wants to make it big in the glamour world. But her parents want her married.
So… the two run away from home, only to discover that the world is not as rosy as it seems. It belongs to the dishonest and the opportunists. They happen to meet each other at the railway station, share their woes and decide to be “the way the world wants them to be”. They start conning people. What starts as a trick to make money for a trip to Mumbai, becomes their profession. They become famous as “Bunty Aur Babli(BB)”, the unsurpassable con duo. Their tricks leave people in splits and the police baffled.
Entry…Amitabh Bachchan as DIG – Dasharth Singh, who has taken a vow to catch BB red-handed. The “Chor Police” story forms rest of the movie.
Amitabh Bachchan is wasted in the movie as Dashrath Singh – this role could have been done by any other mediocre actor. He is drab and boring.
Rani Mukherjee and Abhishek Bachchan look good as a pair – though there is not much of acting prowess to be displayed. Of the two, Abhishek comes across better. The whole movie looks rushed… the conning sequences could have been shot better with more elaboration to bring in the comedy element atleast… Music is average… definitely not one of Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s best works till date.
Rani Mukherjee’s clothes are outrageous. Her clothes are a pot pourri of colours… it definitely does not require a designer to make clothes like that… I think the small town garish way of dressing has been taken too far in this movie.
Aishwarya Rai sizzles in the item number( which I personally think is wasted again!!)
Overall, a good lesson for film goers who get carried away by slick promos – do not watch a movie by judging the promos!! Bad movies normally have fantastic promos!!
